Wish I was born in that generation....none of them look hot.
If I wore those outfits today I'd heat stroke out in 3 minutes

1. It was definitely cooler on average. 2. The human body was better adapted to its environment. Air conditioning had just been invented and was not very common.

Pretty cool. I think I see Bob the third from the left and FM sitting on the bench in the background.

Question.... Are you sure that is not a rugby team.? When I was a student there in the 60s I was invited, at one point, to play rugby. Just asking.

Football very much resembled rugby in those days

Bowman Field was where all the earlier games were played in

those days, and spectators would surround the area in whatever means of transportation, sort of like original tailgating.
Before helmets the players tended to wear longer hair for some protection, and old tales hinted at the use of brass knuckles occasionally.
Walter Merritt Riggs started Clemson's program, having previously done the same at Auburn; hence, where the Tiger name and colors originated. Later on, he became the President of Clemson. Eventually, the games moved to Riggs Field, then in the early 40's to what we call Death Valley. During my days there in the 60's, the team dressed in Fike Fieldhouse, then walked down to the stadium. As it was a quicker entrance via the east end, that's how running down the hill evolved. Use of the hill was spotty for viewing then, as mostly kids took it over for cardboard sliding.
By 1966, the rock was placed atop the hill, but the tradition of the touching didn't begin until the following year. Football games then were mostly social affairs with guys typically wearing dress slacks and ties, the ladies in dresses, some types of heels, even gloves. Saturday nights were the scenes of large dances in the cafeteria, also social in nature, with students dressed in coats and ties, the ladies in dresses. As students looked forward to the dances, there probably would have been riots had the games started any later than the typical one o'clock game times! lol
And, some of those boys shown in that clip were still alive when I was there...an eye opener, for sure, when thinking of time!
