I was thinking about the Jags epic comeback win over the Chargers last weekend and was reminded of something I noticed about ETN.
Jags driving down the field in a 2 minute drill to get into FG range, 4th and 1, hand off to ETN around the right side. He bursts around for a huge gain heading for the sideline but makes a conscious decision to fight to stay in bounds.
I can't help but think that he obtained that situational awareness from his Clemson days. Back in 2020 there was a similar situation against Notre Dame in the regular season. Clemson was up 33-26 with less than 2 minutes to go, 3rd and long, and ETN gets the ball and heads towards the sideline. It was obvious he wasn't going to get to the first down marker but he didn't get down before getting out of bounds, thereby stopping the clock. Had he went down inbounds we could've either run another 40 seconds off the clock or forced ND to burn a timeout before punting. That would've increased the odds of our defense getting a game winning stop with less time for ND to drive for a TD. Now nobody can say for certain if we would've stopped them in that scenario, but the game ended up going to overtime and the rest is history.
All that to say, I'm proud of ETN and the that we had the opportunity to watch him grow at Clemson (i.e. pass catching) and that he is having similar success in the NFL.
