ESPN bracketology update for Clemson

Clemson is a 5-seed in ESPN's latest bracketology update and pegged for a trip to Spokane, Washington, to face the play-in winner between Providence and Texas A&M.

The ACC is projected to have four bids with UNC (2), Duke (3), Clemson (5) and Virginia (10). Wake Forest is listed as the first team out.

I remember the ACC getting six, seven, eight teams in on a regular basis. Kind of gives me the conference sads!!

Go Tigers!!

From a historical perspective and even from just watching some of the teams now.

I do believe the ACC has missed something somewhere with their presentation, marketing,
scheduling, media relations, etc. of basketball. Maybe Coach Brownell has a point with the criticism of the 20 game schedule. But it's easy to see that whatever has transpired in football has now taken place in basketball.

All I know is that while I do think the SEC has improved its basketball in recent years...the concept of the SEC having double the amount of bids as the ACC is crazy. And we currently have 15 total teams to their 14. And 9 bids for the Big 12?

Really not sure where this all goes...but it doesn't seem to be getting better.

And with a lot fewer teams. People think we are as strong, but I just don’t see it.

Hard to imagine Wake being left out given their ascension in the net rankings (#27) this week. Virginia has work to do being at 48.

4 teams in would be a joke. I listened to Jim Rome and Bill Self on the radio talk about how the big 12 should get 9 or 10 teams in. Complete joke.

I skimmed through the pics quickly but only saw one sub regional in Charlotte.

What are the chances Clemson ends up in charlotte, assuming UNC is a lock for charlotte?

Would love a local flare to Clemsons ncaa chances of advancing.

Probably the better the finish, the better chance it happens. There was a projection of a 6-seed Clemson with 3-seed Alabama in the same Charlotte pod. Duke and UNC being in that 1-3 seed range could get both pods though. ESPN's latest doesn't have two pods for Charlotte, but I imagine they meant to have Tennessee in Charlotte and not for a third Indianapolis one.

Yes, our history seeding is as follows:

4th Seed (2 times): 1987, 1997
5th Seed (3 times): 1990, 2008, 2018
6th Seed (2 times): 1980, 1998
7th Seed (3 times): 2009, 2010, 2021
9th Seed (2 times): 1989, 1996
12th Seed (1 time): 2011*

*: First-Four Play In

It would be one of our best seeds in program history.

Here you go:

1980: 6 seed
1987: 4 seed
1989: 9 seed
1990: 5 seed
1996: 9 seed
1997: 4 seed
1998: 6 seed
2008: 5 seed
2009: 7 seed
2010: 7 seed
2011: 12 seed
2018: 5 seed
2021: 7 seed

Average seed: 6.6

Our best seed was #4 in 1987 and again in 1997. We lost in the first round in 1987, and made the Sweet 16 in 1997.

We've been a 5 seed 3 times (1990, 2008, 2018). In 1990 we made the Sweet 16, but those wins were vacated due to NCAA sanctions. The 2008 team was a first round loss, and the 2018 team made the Sweet 16.

Based on the posts here, we are horrible and we are on the bubble. Only a heroic end to the season including a near-perfect end to the regular season and possibly a win or two in the ACC Tournament will get us in! LOL!

If the tournament started today, Clemson would certainly be in. However, the tournament doesn't start today. That's because there are five games remaining to be played in the regular season and at least one game in the ACCT. Based on how inconsistent this team has played throughout the season, if you don't think they can still play their way out of the tournament, you need to take your head out of your @$$ and stop lying to yourself. Hoping for the best but there is still A LOT of work to be done. That's just reality.

I've maintained all season that we are an NCAA Tournament team. We've been in every bracketology prediction, and have been firmly in the tournament predictions for months.

Of course we want to keep winning to solidify our bid, but when experts say we are a lock they are logically assuming that we have done/will do what we need to.

The real drama queens here are the ones who can't cheer for our team and be proud of the wins. No, they have to whine and complain about "the last 14 years" and "we're so inconsistent" and a whole bunch of emotional, hormonal griping.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

This has nothing to do with article at hand but thinking back about the older days of the ACC Tournament I can Raycom and listening to Billy Packer and Fred White (later to be Billy Packer and Tim Brant) calling ACC games and being very dialed in. This was way before the “one and done” in today’s college basketball. You could follow your team as they were young and know they would get better with every years experience. For me it just doesn’t hold the same interest now as yesteryear. Sometimes change is good and sometimes not. Anyway, Go Tigers and here’s to hoping they make NCAA Tournament.
