Earthquake felt in Spartanburg - about 28 minutes ago....

Aug 9, 2020, 8:43 AM

My roof rattles for about 4-5 seconds - sounded like a pack of small animals running across.

USGS says it was centered in Sparta NC - near West Jefferson.

That was a really weird feeling bc it felt like my house had shifted on its foundation, and my wife looks at me and says what was that. From living in Phoenix and feeling earthquakes before, I said that it felt like an earthquake, and that is a weird feeling when it happens knowing that the earth beneath is moving!!!!

I did not realize there was a fault around there anywhere.

Shook my house side to side in Greenville. Immediately knew it was an earthquake as there was no noise outside, no explosion sounds. Amazing that it was a 5.1 on the NC Virginia border in Sparta NC.

When I was very young growing up in Clemson I remember at least two times the glasses on our shelves rattled together from small quakes.
