Basically, at the end of the movie.

Dave Bowman: “…the situation has CHANGED. Please accept priority override, ALPHA. Here are the coordinates. Please do it NOW.”

HAL didn’t want to violate his PROGRAMMING at the end of the movie, but the situation that HAL was facing had changed DRASTICALLY from the original circumstances that HAL was programmed for. HAL’s programming had not been able to anticipate the UNKNOWN UNFORESEEN changes that had been FORCED upon them at the time.

Clemson is now HAL at the end of the “2010” movie.

HAL’s comment back to Dave Bowman: “Dave, I’m AFRAID!”
Dave Bowman: “Don’t be. We’ll be together.”
HAL: “Where will that be?”
Dave Bowman: “Where I am now”
HAL: “Message commencing on beacon Terra 1”

Clemson will not be able to compete on the necessary financial scale at $25M per year to fund high 4* & 5* players through NIL agreements.

The transfer portal will savage the 1st, 2nd, and freshmen rosters to the tune of 20-30 players per year. That’s 25-30% of your roster. Developing players to play in your program is OVER, DONE, FINISHED.

Players receive 1 year of training at their initial college of choice (depending on the NIL deal they can negotiate), and then, if the NIL doesn’t look good at the end of a GOOD 1st year, they will drop immediately into the portal to shop their wares. A good agent will NOT allow the player to get rooked into an ACC GOR sort of deal, so they will be able to bolt on a whim for more money.

Clemson will have to MOVE DOWN in to the FCS (Division II) leagues, e.g., the Southern Conference (where they started out in conference affiliation), in order to complete again at the highest levels of their conference.

The expectations at Clemson to compete at the highest levels of the FBS COST MONEY. It is a pay-to-play game.

Anyone want to venture a guess at “The U’s” payroll this year? Jaden Rashada’s NIL contracts were in the $10M range from booster Ruiz. I don’t buy the ON3.com numbers, as 95% of these deals are most likely NOT advertised to the NCAA, and the NCAA has no power to enforce any of it anyway. I would say that Miami is in that $25M range right now.

Texas A&M is certainly in that range, and you will immediately point out that it has done Jimbo no good. But, the issue there isn’t money, it is Jimbo’s coaching ability to get IMMEDIATE RESULTS out of a highly talented incoming player.

Indeed, the college game of 5 years ago is GONE, and on the ash heap of history, i.e., “THE SITUATION HAS CHANGED”
