Does a 1hr or 4hr flight really matter?

Do hotels cost more in Wisconsin than Boston? Food is cheaper and kids like string cheese.
Does it matter if we fly to Cuse or Penn St? Does it cost more to stay in Miami or Birmingham?
People keep talking about game distance with new conference alignment. This isn't about fans! It hasn't been for about 5-8yrs, probably CFP era. The costs to see multiple games and have decent seat with parking are putting dollars beyond the average fans budget. This is only about the TV dollar and there are enough alumni and fans to fill the stadiums for home games. It doesn't matter if you make 1 or 7 games, there is always a butt for your seat.
That's my .02 worth. While I prefer SEC, it doesn't matter as long as we are in a relevant conference. We currently are in a dying one!

It hasn't been about the fans in the stands since college FB got so popular across the entire country!!! Even though it's always good that the home team fan will fill the seats!!!

Absolutely. 1. Better chance for a flight delay. 2. Jet lag. 1:00 kickoff. A west coast team is on 9:00 time. 3. Probably didn't sleep as well.
Think of the Braves when they played in the NL West. They hated west coast games and then the long trip back.
Also, it is six hours to the west coast. Planes typically travel 500 mph.

It cost $1 Million to fly Tiger Band to Phoenix for the Naty

It will cost that much to fly the team and ship the equipment plus room and board. Flying to the West Coast is not a day trip to Boston College. It just doesn't make sense.

Conference pays for travel costs up to a certain limit. If they pay for 50 band members and you take 100 then extra cost is on school. Traveling School does not get paid from home school like when playing D2 schools. That is part of conference payout. So travel costs for team is negligible if meets guaranteed payout.

yes they do.... significantly. It's not just the flight it's the equipment, to get to the west coast it's a 3 day drive, that means game day equipment leaves on Wed for a west coast trip and gets back Tues or Wed... then back out if it's away-away...
The aircraft are also different for short-haul vs long-haul... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

All the other non-revenue sports will have to be flown out to those same places. Those other sports do not typically pay for themselves from most athletic departments. This means; Clemson revenue earning sports football and men's basketball will foot the majority of the bills or all of it. And, it's going to be pricey.
May very well be a necessary evil one day. But, that day isn't today.

This will be the loss-leader. Those teams travel now, $1-2mil more for those teams combined would be covered. I expect many more in house tournaments to get games but reduce costs of travel.

Its hilarious reading the responses. LSU and Michigan are essentially the same distance. Texas, aTm and OU are two full days driving. We would likely play on the west coast once every four years. It’s ok to want one conference over another but at least be honest about it.

That was part of the point of the thread. The team flies direct, no connections on a chartered plane. Not much different flying to Penn St vs Miami, or Boston vs Nebraska. 30min in most cases. Yes you might fly to Cali once a year but they have to fly east also. Or if you fly to Texas is 3hrs basically, how does 1-2hrs on a plane matter?
Schools are not looking at Fandom, it's gonna be on TV.
