Had 12-0 Bama been in that exact scenario with the starting QB out for the season, just having won the SEC while struggling mightily on the offense in the championship game with a 3rd string QB, would they come to the same conclusion?
I suggest the narrative would have been the "gutsy performance of the team under extreme adversity. Gotta put them in and give them a shot, they pass the eye test with such a gritty performance. I'm sure they can at least keep it close and maybe edge out a win, after all, their 2nd string guy will be back, you know..."
You know that would be the case, #### they probably would be moved higher than 4th.

That’s the problem they had. Had to put Texas in order to get Bama. No way they could put Bama and not Texas with the win on the field If Texas and Bama hadn’t played and Tex still had only the loss to Oklahoma , Georgia would have gotten in over Texas

.... I agree with you. If Bama's one loss had been to LSU and Bama had played, and beaten, Rice instead of losing to Texas, then UGA and Bama would have both gotten in.

Since eye tests are apparently valid, what if UGA just wasn’t that good? Also some of UGA’s key offensive weapons were clearly playing injured. Shouldn’t that temper the value of that win, similar to devaluing FSU for the QB situation?
Simple solution - take subjectivity out of it. How? I dunno, haha.

Power 5 champs, when undefeated should go automatically.

When you lose, you prove you can be beat. If you have not lost, and you play a good schedule (FSU did) you keep going til someone beats you. Every single blowhard saying they "know" FSU is vastly inferior to Bama or UGA is being an idiot. You know I know that's a fact? They have been wrong before. They have been surprised before. That's why we have football. We don't know for sure. That's why we have Vegas. We DON'T know for sure. So the whole point is to not screw up a pure product (scoreboard) with our dumb@ss overconfident opinions. And some people STILL can't get it.

Cardell Jones won his first start 59-0 over Wisconsin in B1G championship
Dec 5, 2023, 10:34 AM
|

Also OSU leapfrogged TCU in the final poll screwing the Horned Frogs. Frogs also destroyed their opponent 55-3 but wasn’t in conference championship.
My points?
1 - Committee does what it wants 2 - Cardell’s performance seemed to indicate no drop off

(And Cardale* Jones happened to be the QB who handed the ball to Elliott all day.)
Meanwhile,
FSU's QB2-led offense posted a whopping 220? yards against *gulp* Florida. FSU's QB3-led offense posted a whopping 216 yards agains *gulp gulp* Loovull.

They didn't look great against Auburn. They did, however, look pretty dern good against UGA.
And that's when it mattered most. That's when a team must rise and shine and win with authority, not crawl on all fours to the finish line as FSU did.
Saban's figured that out. Swinney's figured that out. Why hasn't Norvell? Not that Norvell belongs in the same conversation with Saban or Swinney.
And not that FSU (of today) belongs in the same conversation with Bama (of today).
Aaand, we're full circle.
Bama>FSU. Ergo, Bama in CFP, FSU in Orange Bowl.

When Tua sprained his ankle in the last game of the season, they kept Alabama out with the loss of a key player, right? Right?

Alabama is a stronger program. SEC has more clout than ACC. FSU got a bad deal.
If, their back-up QB comes back and UGA still hangs 45 on them, all this conversation will be for naught.
The committee put in the four best teams. Louisville was horrible and still should have won had it not been for their QBs pathetic performance.

It should never be about the four best teams. That’s subjective bar talk. It should be about results on the field. FSU earned all 13 wins and Bama earned their loss.

Fact Vs Opinion fallacy

I bet you "knew" plenty that ended up being wrong. Did you "know" we would beat the coots last year? Did you "know" Ohio State would win it all the first playoff year? Did you "know" Auburn would have Bama beat if not for a miracle?
It should be REALLY EASY for you guys to understand that you don't KNOW. You literally.... factually.... do NOT know.

Maybe but you don’t know. That’s why playing the game matters more than an emotional guess. The 2018 natty game shouldn’t have been played. Waste of 3.5 hrs. Just give the big mason jar to Bama.
