I have tried to bring up football issues lilke tackling, recruiting misses (especially at DE), and the lack of adjustments we’ve seen year after year. Every time, the pumper squad jumps on it like nothing could possibly be wrong, even while we’re sitting around 100th in run defense last year. That’s exactly why I said the board is light on real X’s and O’s talk

I’ve been pointing out the real issues like being thin RB recruiting (to the point we had a WR at RB), no DE depth, and a run defense that flat out collapsed last year. Every time, the pumpers blew it off like I was making stuff up. Now instead of talking about how to fix those problems, all this board ever does is argue about how much we’re going to beat LSU by or how dumb their coach is. That’s exactly the empty noise I was talking about.

What’s a joke is watching RB recruiting get so bad we had to play a WR at RB, no DE depth to speak of, and a run defense that cratered and how the pumpers brushed it all off. Now the board just argues about how many points we’ll beat LSU by or how dumb their coach is. That’s the real joke

We have a freshman RB who many of the football sites list as the preseason all freshman team RB. Haynes and Green are hurt. It would be hard for any team to get a stud five star while Mafah and Shipley were both here.
Instead of going to the portal and getting some kid from XYZ State the coaches decided to move Randal.

Clemson better move the chains because punting could be a problem. The defensive front seven had better live up to their potential because the secondary is questionable. LSU has a rebuilt O line but do not know how they will play together in their first outing. LSU also has a legit QB who can get the ball out quickly. He is going to have to have some running success or will have a long night. The o line looks good but will get tested by the LSU defensive front. Adam Randall is in a position to bust out and be a great running back. Cade had better be on because his receivers are top notch and are ready to reclaim wide receiver U. Coach Riley is still a questionable coach and needs to let it rip tomorrow night.

This is the kind of matchup talk we need. Perkins is elite rushing the passer but he’s shaky in coverage exactly where Clemson has to attack. Line up Randall and the WRs to force that mismatch and Cade has to hit it. If Riley doesn’t scheme that, it’s coaching malpractice. I wish I could read more of posts like this.

I’m just hoping to see Allen fundamentally change how our defense looks. I’m so sick of how we’ve basically turned into soft / pushovers on defense under fat boy.
I’m hopeful that our defensive line will cause major issues for LSUs new oline, plus I think the crowd tomorrow night will force a few false starts and rattle Nuss a bit. I mean , whether we have tons of depth or not, the defensive line will give their offensive line issues because it’s a brand new lines with transfers at night in Death Valley. Hopefully Allen is extremely aggressive and mixes in a few disguised blitzes. I’ve seen some footage from his time at Indiana where he had dlinemen running pick plays. It’s really creative and I’m confident the defensive will look better, but it may not be perfect day one.

Finally, somebody actually talking football. I agree that Allen has to make this defense look different because we’ve been soft and it showed. I’ve been saying for years that edge depth are killing us, and if Allen can get more aggressive with pressure and disguise like he did at Indiana, it could cover some of those issues. LSU’s O-line being brand new is the best shot we’ll get to test them, but it only matters if we actually tackle and set the edge. The crowd will help, but it starts with fixing the stuff that’s been broken.

From what I understand, Goodwins’ 4-3 defense was extremely cumbersome for the players to learn, and it was overly complicated. It required players to make sure they control their lanes / gaps , and they didn’t, you usually get gashed with long runs. Allen’s 4-3-5 is way easier to learn, extremely flexible to players strengths, and doesn’t require so much gap / lane integrity like Goodwins did. We will see a difference tomorrow, I’m confident. For the past 5 years I haven’t been, but Dabo seems to be making sound decisions. Allen was a great hire. He exudes confidence and toughness. Go listen to his pregame speeches. Now, can to imagine Wes Goodwin talking like that to players. I don’t think so. While that stuff is hard to quantify, I believe that’s the kind of stuff that shows up on game day.

Adam Randall sets up the passing game and ends up scoring two rushing touchdowns while our defense manages to find a way to hold their offense in check and we win 31-17
