Do you believe Dabo knew b/4 Ga game he wasn’t holding a great

Dec 31, 2021, 9:34 AM

Poker hand with his QB and Oline but probably had a championship D?

Whatever, Coach hung in there all season with his QB & Oline and showed typical class in never criticizing but teaching & encouraging.

Oh, HaPpY NEW YEAR TiGERS Everywhere! ??

Although Dabo has never publicly acknowledged this, it's a proven fact. He's lucky to have us.

Note to Dabo: next year, complete more long passes and have more long runs. Also, let's return a few fumbles for Tis. You're welcome.

I think this year has overshadowed the fact that our defense has pretty much been like holding two aces. While a Straight, a Flush, a Full Boat or Trips CAN beat you, you still have a solid hand with two bullets in the hole!

OMG moments….

My buddies and I always talk about that. But at that point in August you have to play the hand you’re dealt.

Dabo and fellas played it about as well as you could! (Still wish we had NC State back, though)!!

Go Tigers!

While I just HATE ‘woulda, coulda, shouldas’, you are spot on about the OT loss to NC State….

Yeah. They knew. Ted Roof was talking to a friend of mine this past summer and said: "this defense is so loaded all we have to do is score 13-14 points a game and we'll be back in the playoffs." My friend then said: "Surely our O can do way better than that."

Roof was apparently...not convinced. He just said: "The O's got some...problems right now." At the time I took that with a grain of salt because I thought DJU and Phommanchanh both had mad talent, and I thought that because I'd seen it with my own eyes on multiple occasions.

In hindsight it's pretty apparent the staff was more than aware by then DJU and Phommanchanh were both misses and were not developing nearly to their physical ability, though. (Both guys are NFL talents from the neck down and as a Clemson fan I hope both have the light come on and find their way there somehow. Maybe if they find the right situation and right QB whisperer it can still happen for them.) But the staff was clearly well-aware before the season that the O was going to struggle. I've heard some other stuff since then that definitely confirms that.

FWIW.

Interesting Quozzel.

What are your thoughts on DJ’s injured finger? I believe Dabo may have done DJ an ‘injustice’ by not being more forthcoming on that (although it has been his MO to be very tight lipped about any injuries). And by that I mean a lot of folks - okay, most of them that I’m aware of being here on tnet - have heaped a LOT of criticism toward DJ (which I still can’t understand why they would do that to ‘one of OUR players’); but still, maybe if folks knew the whole story, they could/would be less critical, snarky or hateful.

Anyway, you always have a good ‘take’ on these things, and I’m curious as to your thoughts.

(Apologies if you’ve previously addressed, but with all the negative posts on the team, Dabo, the players, and our performance, I really haven’t spent (as) much time on tnet this year…..).

hit the transfer portal for a QB who could play after TP went down in the Spring Game. It also makes you wonder why the game plan for the Georgia game was so DJ centric.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because the portal is bad and we can’t risk our culture with a selfish entitled brat

Dec 31, 2021, 11:30 AM

from the portal.

That’s what I gather from what’s been said.

This may be his best team ever I thought. So I’m not sure if he did or not.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, he was way off on that.

Dec 31, 2021, 11:33 AM

Otherwise he was lying, and I don’t think he would’ve purposely lied.

So given the assumption that he was being honest, we are left to conclude that his evaluation skills are not his strong suit (this isn’t to discount Dabo’s many exemplary talents).

The mantra is always it’s hard to tell anything from the Spring game, but everyone I talked with after the Spring game all kind of felt we didn’t look very good on offense. We looked….very off. I think we all kind of wrote it off as hiding plays from Georgia, but the warning signs were definitely there.

I think Dabo is an optimist and you don’t really know what everyone else is putting on the field until you start playing some games. And honestly, I don’t feel there was an elite college football team this season. I think that was the weakest Bama team they’ve taken to the playoffs and if Bama had won, I think Saban would get accolades for his best coaching job yet…similar to Dabo for getting 10 wins out of this year’s team. UGA defense was elite but they had offensive problems - especially early - I mean we nearly beat them with our flawed team. Slightly better QB and receiver play, and we are probably a playoff team. There was no 2018 Clemson or 2019 LSU out there. Flawed could win it all this year.

Re: Do you believe Dabo knew b/4 Ga game he wasn’t holding a great

Dec 31, 2021, 10:00 AM

There's no indication he even knows that now, honestly. I think he thinks the offense is just a small tweak or a healthy player or two away. Otherwise why would he roll with the exact same coaches and the exact same players next year when we now have free agency and he could change up a lot. Seems like we barely tried to get one transfer OL and failed and that was it. Everything else is completely business as usual.

And before anyone replies with "go root for someone else", this isn't me whining. I lived through Bowden and love 10 win seasons. Just pointing out out the fact that nothing will change offensively next season, at all.

I'm glad you brought this up. I was thinking we were world crushing before the UGA game. Who could look at our team and think differently? But one of my boys' friends works with the team and was not so confident. I just thought he was just being negative. Didn't even compute. But looking back, maybe there was an undercurrent of worry on the practice field. They knew!

Re: Do you believe Dabo knew b/4 Ga game he wasn’t holding a great

Dec 31, 2021, 10:21 AM

I think he thought they had much better team than they did. He read too many of the news articles extolling their greatness and ranking them as number one or two so he thought that is what they had while overlooking obvious performance deficiencies like the accuracy of DJ.

This is why there were so many comments protecting the coaches and tacitly blaming the players.

Still, it looked pretty good for the last three games. I personally love the Defensive coordinator pick. I wish they would shake up the offense more though and, as many have said, get some new blood and clean out the staff so it is not so nepotistic with former players. Just sayin'

Last off the wall observation. Is it me or did DJ get markedly better once Ross and Ngata were injured and off the field in the final two games of regular season?
