it is overturned it DOES NOT MAKE ABORTION ILLEGAL, just sends it back to the states? Guess my suggestion is to not try to explain this simple concept to them.

Roe v Wade prevents the states from making abortion illegal.

13 states have laws to ban all or nearly all abortions that would be triggered if Roe were overturned.

... and overturning R.v.W. would also prevent the citizens of one state from moving to another state according to their free will (so that they would not have to live in a state which had state laws that they didn't like).
Or would it?

I guess citizens could move to another country according to their free will (so that they would not have to live in a nation which had laws that they didn't like).
Doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but sure.

Very much so. Hopefully such a law is not enforceable.

Pretty much every house has brown recluses. I’m darn near immune at this point. About like a fire ant bite.

The Libertarian in me applauds returning power to the States
May 4, 2022, 3:23 PM
|

The realist in me recognizes that this will be totally swamped and overwhelmed by the controversiality of subject court case and the knee-jerk "I don't want to listen to you because you don't fully agree with my opinion" noise associated with this.
Now, what's supposedly in the majority opinion is both the removal of law by writ from the bench and return to laws generated by a legislature that's formed by representatives elected by their constituents.
But what's been on the news with this release is also, summarized, is that if there's a need for a federal set of standards, it needs to be a law passed by Congress (also legistators elected to represent their constituents). Makes sense to me and I'd be all in favor of something thru Congress. Unfortunately, they've done nothing in the 50 years since RvW and I don't see that changing. Especially without a super-majority to avoid filibuster.

There’s a reason they’ve never codified it into law.

If the Dems had, they’d have lost the ability to trot out the issue every 2-4 years as election bait to rally the base.

Not pretending anything. That river doesn’t flow both ways.

There was a time when it absolutely went both ways, but since 2008 or so, mainstream pubs have been doing their damnedest to leave the abortion issue behind. They’ve long felt it was too polarizing to the female vote.
I’m not saying it disappeared from the platform, but no it doesn’t lead like it used to.
