I am not looking forward to those things again. They are disgusting and everywhere when they do show up. Most of all they are outrageosly noisy. I haven't noticed them starting up yet though.

We have had a couple of dead ones on our porch, which is a bad sign, because where Cicadas go, Copperheads are sure to follow, since they are their primary food source.

Good to know. I will watch out for my dogs. I didn't have dogs last time the cicadas came around.

Cicadas love pines and Copperheads love cicadas. I've learned to never pull bark off a dead pine.

I've heard them in the woods for a couple of weeks....

...but just now seeing them in the driveway. Last week it sounded like three spaceships idling in the woods. Now its not as loud but they seem to be spreading out. My mothers porch has been littered with them since the start.
I don't know about the copperheads, but I saw a squirrel eating one. I'm in the cootlumbia are and the free range chickens around here should be fat, dumb, and happy.

Same here in Charlotte. They're starting to die off... Are we sure cicadas like pine trees? I've driven by stands and it's quiet and stands of hardwood and it's crazy. I thought the opposite was true.

I’ve been working out in the country the last several weeks about 10 miles from pelzer and they bad out here. It’s nothing but hardwoods. Hardly any pines. But, I’d rather hear the sound of these things than the sound of cars and crazy people.

I hadn’t either until last week. They’re like flying #### roaches .. I’d stopped with the car running and thought I had a loose fan belt. Turned off the car and the noise was from these creatures.

Y’all are missing out. They are just ending here in the midlands. Lauren’s county has been going for a month. Hit a tree on the edge of a field and hundreds will fly off.

summer, so I'm a little surprised they haven't appeared yet. Seems to me they don't usually get cranked up here until it gets hot. Personally, I love to sit on the deck on a hot summer night with a cold beer (and in the old days, a good cigar) and listen to the cicadas; I find it very soothing in an amazing sort of way.

I live in the northwest midlands. They started here just before the last full week of April and are finally wrapping up. I’ve seen cicadas many times as we usually get at least a few every summer, but I’ve never seen this many before. Unbelievable thing to witness. I counted just under 500 in my yard one day a few weeks ago.

We live in rural York County and they are everywhere on our property. We are surrounded by hardwood trees and it sounds like a bush hog PTO shaft at high speed.
We see some cicadas out here in the country but if you go into Rock Hill they'll attack you.

on the tree branches where the larva hatched and develop before dropping to the ground . One oak along my yard looks like half the leaves are brown. This has just started showing up the last couple of days. Can't hear them anymore here but last week my wife said she could hear them over the riding lawn mower when she was cutting grass. I took hundreds out of the pool skimmer and dumped them into the lake - turtles loved them. When they bit into them, I could see gray juice squirt into the water.
