This is an interesting question. Last year, DJ’s average completed pass netted just over 6yds. This year, he’s averaging just over 9yds.
Through all of 2022, he completed 229 passes for just over 2,500 yards. Through 10 games in 2023, he’s completed 146 passes for just over 2,500 yards.
Now, I’m by no means an expert but I have a couple of theories:
1. The Beavs have more explosive WRs
2. Oregon State’s scheme does fit DJ’s game better
3. PAC defenses aren’t great.

PAC defenses are pretty bad! He did lead us to 10 win seasons and wasn’t a complete failure. He just wasn’t the answer to take us back to the CFP. Hopefully Cade takes a few huge steps forward before 2024!!

It’s an indictment of the Clemson WR room. DJ is at his very best a below average QB with zero leadership skills. Look at his game against ND. You had the last remains of WRU Clemson receivers in Amari Rodgers, Cornell Powell, and EJ and Ngata before they fell off a cliff under Tyluuur Grisham. He was fine with good wideouts. There has been nothing since then.
Give me Cade and his leadership and fire any day over DJ.

I'll add that they have a pretty good oline too. As for pac defense, that's correct. But DJ didn't exactly play better defenses in the acc either.

They run a pro style offense and have a better OL.
DJ isn't running for his life, but the RPO isn't his strength.
But, yeah, the PAC 10 defenses aren't great. It looks more like 7 on 7 drills.

We started 8-0 last year and DJ was in the Heisman discussion? Ran through our toughest ACC division challengers? Were in the CFP hunt until the last regular season game? ACC champs? Orange Bowl berth?

Yeah, once the hype train went into overdrive the wheels kinda got loose there for sure. Just pointing out to the OP that DJ was indeed rocking it here last season by and large. We were 4-point favorites on the road v Notre Dame last season.

Stats are not that impressive. Washington will smoke them by 21. Look at their schedule and it is propped up by playing a weak schedule
Hoping we play them in bowl game and we can see for sure. Stop their RB and I feel confident of an easy victory.
Side note. I like DJ and have no issues with him and how he conducted himself while he was here. He was not the whole problem as evidenced by our offensive woes this year.

Washington will beat Oregon State by at least 2 TDs. Both defenses have holes but Washington's offense, particularly at the QB and WR positions is much better

It’s the same DJ this year. Really no different. People seem to forget that we were a couple points away from probably being in the playoff last year with him as QB1…stupid chickens.
He does seem more comfortable this year and their run game takes a lot of pressure off of the QB. It seemed the pressure got to him at times last year.

his stats (which are substantially better this year), attribute all of the improvement to better personnel around him at Oregon State than he had at Clemson, or rationalize it as the result of playing worse defenses in the Pac 12.
I know almost everyone here will choose #3 before they a) admit DJ is actually playing better, or b) admit that OSU has better skill talent than Clemson. It's the easy out.

he just has more time to throw his 5 yard screen passes now. At the end of the day though, DJ couldnt consistently complete a forward pass at Clemson, and that was in large part his own doing, not the supporting cast. Threw em in the dirt, sailed them over their heads, threw picks.....

players in that backfield which commands alot of attention. This allows DJU more freedom and opportunities to be successful as a QB. They take alot of that pressure he felt at Clemson off his plate. Which is what every QB wants. ITs a really good situation for him or anyone. Honestly he is improved but not greatly improved. He's still very much the same QB but just in a situation where his RBs lead the offense and he fills in the gaps. Plus he's closer to family and girlfriend... He's more relaxed.. Good for DJ.

Neither DJ nor Coach Streeter were the total problems last year. We are better today because our defense and our offensive line is playing better and will get even better as Cade and some other skill players get more experience.

He was hamstrung by Streeter, Grisham, and Austin being bad at their jobs. I’ve always said we ruined DJ, his freshman year subbing for Trevor showed what he could do. We just royally botched it by setting him up with underqualified friends and family coaches. Was he going to be as good as Trevor or Deshaun? No probably not, he probably could have been better than Tajh though

you haven't watched any Oregon St football this year, have you? LOL. The beavers have a really good OL and running game. DJU does a good job of handing the ball off and play action pass off of the running game. Oh, they play the other qb about a 1/4 of the time.

Candy from babies, but this is truly never the case.
Something is amiss so be weary of betting this line.
I would put a mortgage on this, Washington has very little in the way of defense but OSU has not impressed me in the least this year. DJ is doing enough and not screwing up enough and they are winning. However, Washington has one of the best QB's in nation, he should feast upon the OSU defense

However, a betting line early on like this gives me a bad feeling.
