Sep 7, 2019, 12:59 AM

Went and watched DJU5 play in Vegas tonight. He is composed, accurate with wheels. The future is bright.

Nice! They have had big travel for a couple games already this year have they not? So much for playing local and conference games? Seems like a lot of HS's travel for big games every year nowadays. I wonder who covers the cost of travel for schools? When i played in late 80s, no way we could afford to travel as a team of almost 100 players and my parents couldn't have paid my travel costs.

Absolutely insane! This great news.

https://www.presstelegram.com/2019/09/06/dj-uiagalelei-as-efficent-as-jason-negro-has-seen-in-st-john-bosco-win-at-liberty/

St. John Bosco High on Friday entered its non-league football game against Liberty ranked No. 3 in the country by USA Today. Liberty, out of Henderson, Nev., was 0-2 so it figured the Patriots might be an easy mark for the Braves.

But Liberty’s losses were to Chandler and Mililani, the No. 2-ranked team in their respective states of Arizona and Hawaii according to MaxPreps, so perhaps Liberty would be good enough to stay in the game.

Nope. St. John Bosco – in large part because of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei – led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-7 at halftime on its way to a 49-7 victory over the Patriots at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas.

Uiagalelei threw five touchdown passes – three in the first half – and also had a 1-yard TD run in the first half. He now has 12 touchdown passes in the first three games.

He completed 6 of 9 passes for 290 yards, leading to quite a proclamation from his coach, Jason Negro.

“It was as efficient a performance as I’ve ever seen out of that position at our school over the 10 years that I’ve been there,” Negro said as he and his team boarded their bus. “And he takes it all in stride.

“He was 6 of 9 and he’s still talking about the three incompletions and not the six completions and the five touchdowns.”

St. John Bosco (3-0) also got a 65-yard touchdown run from sophomore Rayshon Luke in the second quarter.

Four of Uiagalelei’s touchdown passes went to junior Beaux Collins. They connected from 80, 26, 34 and 38 yards. Uigalelei’s other TD pass, of 71 yards, was to Jode McDuffie.

The only points the Braves allowed came on a 7-yard touchdown run by quarterback Daniel Britt in the second quarter that pulled the Patriots within 21-7.

That was the only look – albeit brief – Liberty (0-3) had at the game.

Negro praised the overall effort of his defense.

“Yeah, I was super pleased with the way we played defensively,” he said. “They had a couple of big plays in the midway point of the game and we kind of played to the scoreboard a little bit on the drive that they scored on, which is something we can’t do in the future.”

Liberty is ranked No. 3 in Nevada.
