Long time lurker, First time poster.
Am I alone in thinking that we haven’t developed a QB in over a decade? Outside of Live Game reps and just expierence helping I haven’t seen a year over year progression from any of our QBs. Trevor and Deshaun were great the moment they stepped on campus. Bryant and Stoudt outside of the one off against the Sooners I felt never got better. DJ and Cade never progressed. I think there’s bigger issues within the program. I’ve never once felt we had this great offensive scheme. We out talented a lot of teams during our success. With NiL and the current college landscape that talent discrepancy has got much thinner. I believe a combination of both of these is the reason for our struggles. Just my two cents, Rant over

You are right. I can’t recall a QB that’s really developed. Watson and Lawrence were great as freshman and never really improved much beyond that, although that would’ve been a very high ceiling.

You're spot on. Trent Dilfer called out our program on this point 3 years ago. He said Trevor got worse over his time at Clemson. Apparently he just had enough talent to still be good enough...

Guys like Watson and Trevor were good enough to mask the issues in coaching on the offensive side of the ball, but you could see it getting worse even by Trevor's JR season. I firmly believe it's more to do with the position coaches as much as the coordinators. We haven't had a real QB, RB, or WR coach in quite awhile.

Or the QBs are aren't learning. DJ went to others schools and never progressed under their coaches either. I do agree that Klubnik hasn't. But I'm not sure what his problems are besides what we have seen to date. He did seem to progress somewhat last year, but regressed this year.

one close to them, routinely.. and we never do other than a handful of times in a game or on a lateral screen. No way Syracuse or Troy just have better players than we do. Its scheme.
Had the troy QB not missed on about 5 unforced errors he made (guy wide open but threw behind him) then we woudl be 0-4. The plays he missed in the 2nd half were there. I think the scouting report on Cade is rush him often and that he locks on the primary.

Didn't improve as WSU and appeared to regress at FSU.

Jesse
Then I think the question becomes - how many other programs have seen significant QB progression ?
In other words: Are QBs born or are they developed ? Or are they developed by the time they get to college ??

One thing is for sure - Coach Streeter is a better recruiter than he ever was a college quarterback or QB coach.

Accurate assesment. Clemson use to have at least one or two matchups at wr that were heavily in Clemsons favor. With the portal and NIL most power 4 teams have solid to good corners and safeties now.
The out athlete the opposition strategy is dead, need to attack all areas of the field and hit moving targets now(will say it looks like they are trying to do this now but the QB has become gun shy and the OL is getting him obliterated compounding each issue).
The best thing Clemson can do now is find a creative run game/rpo game, get away from the gap blocking bc the guards are not athletic enough to pull effectively and hammer home inside zone and duo with some rpo tags.
