Is she hurt or what is wrong with her? Obviously, with her being the first overall pick they think she will recover or return to her previous form

I don't know but something changed. She can no longer just blow it by hitters or she doesn't try to anyway. She is now an opposite field slap hitter and seldom even takes a full cut. Hate to see it because she was really fun to watch last year. Hoping for a full recovery from whatever ails this lady.

I have watched her a lot over last few yrs and she is missing some of her competitive edge for some reason. I really think she is struggling with something physical that is holding her back. Pitching velocity is down, accuracy is down, batting avg down, HRs down. Some are suggesting that she put too much pressure on herself as National Player of the year but it is more than that or else we would see flahes of her former self. Nat'l players of the yr don't just become average without an underlying reason and she started the season playing much better than now. I truly think she has to have underlying injury thats holding her back and its causing her not to play free with a big smile like last yr.

I love her for all she has done for Clemson and its softball program. I wouldn’t draft her #1 if it wasn’t something they know is fixable

Supposedly mono earlier, then a concussion.

Thanks for response, must have missed that. Mono can affect a person for awhile physically. That makes sense

It isn’t mono. Val has played average at best all season.

I've said it stemmed from the injury that she sustained at Syracuse and the time she was out from having Mono and being weak from that but there is probably more we'll never know for sure

The announcers have said other inaccurate things as well. I wish Valerie well and appreciate what she has done and meant for Clemson.

Didn't she have a shoulder injury a couple of years ago?

Maybe it came back to bother her, though she had the great year last year.
Shoulder injuries seem to be a lingering issue for a lot of athletes like Cullen Harper, Willy Korn, and Kyle Parker. Those guys were never the same after their shoulder problems.

It seems if it was a shoulder injury, they would not let her pitch. Idk not an expert, just don’t know how they whip that ball out like they do

she seems like she's a great person as well. She's quiet but confident and not a vocal leader but in no way a distraction as well. Honestly, she just looks like she's tired of softball and, after all the innings she played the past 4-5 years maybe she is and maybe she's injured as well.
Regardless, kind of like watching DW4 and TLaw, great players who we were blessed to see play live. Best of luck to Val, she was/is Clemson softball.

She has been amazing the last 3 years, but it's quite obvious there is some sort of injury they've kept quiet. Whatever it is I hope she's able to get back to her old self after she goes pro.
