ACC, Maryland reach settlement on exit fee: $31.4M, not $52.2M. The University of Maryland will forfeit $31.4 million for leaving the Atlantic Coast Conference to go to the Big Ten Conference, the ACC announced Friday.Aug 8, 2014

I think they are paying in installments too. Not sure if they are done, doubt it.

I think the money was withheld from their last few years....

in the conference. They were already in trouble and I'm sure us withholding their money didn't help...

Couldn't happen to a better bunch!

They paid part of it...

The original contractual exit fee was $52 million. While the dispute was being resolved, the ACC retained Maryland's portion of the conference revenue (approximately $32 million). A settlement was later negotiated where the ACC would simply keep the $32 million and Maryland would not be required to pay any additional penalty.

I never understood this move. I know they had

some systemic money issues, but they would be so much better off in the ACC right now than the Big 10, even with the difference in money paid out.

Let's just be glad they're gone...

Their fans were horrible and they brought very little to the table as a member of the league.
