Did he walk on the real moon, or the fake one out in LA?

Just not yesterday, today, or tomorrow.
Or any day that ends in Y.

He’s a heck of a nice man and as unassuming as they come.

I met him at event once. He gave a keynote speech, and did Q&A.

Charlie & Bill Duke are both from my home town. Bill his late brother, was my doctor and was a super guy, also unassuming. Charlie came to my junior high school shortly after he came back from the moon and stayed all day. What a thrill that was. I have an autograph somewhere! Basically shut down the school the entire day. Great Family.

He stood around your school longer than he stood on the moon.

I hosted him at Clemson in 1985 as a speaker. I was a senior in AFROTC and he came with an invite to Officer's Christian Fellowship. I introduced him but had NO IDEA how important he was to US history. What a great speaker and I made a commitment to myself that I would never underestimate a person again.

How can you introduce someone without knowing what their accomplishments are?

Strange that you say 10th American to walk on the moon. Have there been any other people than Americans to walk on the moon?

He spoke at Clemson after his trip to the Moon. Bill was my aunt's Dr in Lancaster. He was a hoot in his commentary while on the Moon!

and died a while back. They've sent quite a few kids/grandkids through Clemson.
I was at the blast-off (6 years old) and can remember how the ground shook and my grandmother fell out of her chair. We stayed at a big house in CoCo Beach with a ton of cousins. Charlie (and I believe Mattingly & Young also) came by the night before the launch but could only stop and wave from the car due to Quarantine. I remember driving to the observation site and seeing all of the cars lined up and down the roads for miles; it was a big deal back then.
After Charlie got back from the moon they had a big parade in Lancaster (the Charlie Duke Day Parade).
