So Juwaun Briscoe hid the fact he went on Official visit to.

Just read Juwuan Briscoe hid the fact from Clemson that his visit to Ohio State this weekend was an 'official visit'. Wonder what this does to his commitment status.

Fyi, it was posted all over tigernet last week he was visiting ohio state. So he wasnt hiding anything. Some of u so called clemson fans need to keep up with the news instead of bashing a tiger commit. I do agree its getting a little bothersome with the new offers and attention hes drawing lately, but thats part of recruitment. Dabo and staff just have to keep doing their job keeping this kids head straight!

please explain how dabo's rules work as most are not as informed. my understanding of his policy was he tells players not to commit if you are not sure. if you are committed you can not go on visits or you will lose your offer. however if a committed recruit wants to visit us we let him as we feel he was NEVER truly committed. is this right or not?

We treat committed recruits visiting any school the same, as if they are not committed. Usually Dabo does make contact with commits visiting other schools and talks to them about their commitment status. If they are upfront about things and do not waiver in their commitment then Dabo treats this as a firm commitment and they stay committed. If Dabo feels they are unsure or they are not honest about the visit Dabo has no hesitation in pulling the offer. This usually does not happen without some kind of conversation between the recruit and the coaching staff. Sure only the situations that result in pulled offers make news but many times it is an opportunity for the staff to sure up a commitment and remind a player of what a commitment means.

the only commitments that get scholarships pulled are ones that are told the scholarship will be pulled if they take other visits or ones that lie about taking visits
Not all commitments are told they can't visit and not all recruits are treated equally(players sure, recruits no) ---- it depends on the recruit, his ability, position need and who we may be telling no to because the kid said he was 100% committed
this has always been the case

It's always been a gray area to me. Obviously, transparency is very important so I'm just curious why he would even lie about the situation... I'd be upset with our coaches if they told him he couldn't go on an official visit.

Now I'm back on the fence about the whole issue...
Nov 3, 2014, 8:03 PM
|
|
On one hand, I don't like double standards...if we stayed in contact with a recruit while committed to another school and they said, "Hey Dabo, I wanna come take an official visit!" Do you think Dabo would say no? Do you think he'd tell them they have to decommit before they can visit Clemson?
Likewise, it shouldn't be such a big deal if a recruit wants to use their official visits to visit other schools REGARDLESS of Clemson standards for commitment. I understand what you are saying about not committing if you're going to take other visits and that is apart of Clemson's policy from the beginning...I just not sure I like that premise from the start.
On the other hand, I know Clemson has to protect itself and prevent those last second flips that leaves us with vacancies. I guess you could also argue that it ISN'T a double standard because it is simply Clemson's standard and if the school the recruit committed to wants to pull their scholarship, there's nothing Clemson can do about it and may even condone it...heck, it'd help Clemson out if they really wanted him.
On the third hand, what if a recruit isn't heavily recruited and Clemson was his biggest offer. As his senior year in high school draws to an end, he all the sudden gets an influx of big time offers...merely months away from NSD. What if he thought Clemson was as good as it's going to get (and let's be real, it is ) made the commitment, and now wants to rethink things? I guess we just pull his scholly and tell him whoever commits first gets the spot?
In the end, I see what you're saying...maybe it is the best thing to do. Maybe we should pull his scholly, continue to recruit the position and when it fills, it fills. Only problem with that is, Briscoe may be very talented, have no intentions of flipping, and now we've got another recruit that may not have as high of a ceiling committed to us with no room for Briscoe...tough call

That's not Dabo's problem, and he can't be expected to look after another schools commit and ours also. The school that the kid is committed to, will have to take that up with the recruit

But if they're not allowed to visit other schools, there is no worries about another school hiring a young beautiful hookers for sexing or BJ-ing them to come play at that school. It happens!!!

are just good enough to take a spot on our roster, but by holding a scholarship for them, we may miss out on another guy later. These guys need to stop taking visits and honor their verbal regardless.
Other guys are so good that even if we get a verbal from them, we know that they will continue to get great offers and we need to be flexible enough to let them do what they need to do while we keep recruiting them until signing day.
I think HONESTY between the recruit and the coaches (a 2-way street) governs the situation much more than any hard & fast rule that "Once you verbal you can't take visits." That's something the fans have read into the situation on their own, since obviously Dabo does have flexibility for certain guys.

Because I remember quite well that he was going to Ohio St. for a visit last week, so if I knew then I am sure the coaches knew. Are you asking did they know if he actually went or actually took an official?

Aren't official visits paid for
Nov 3, 2014, 4:51 PM

Juwuan probably couldn't afford to go all the way to Ohio if he had to pay as an unofficial visit.
Dabo knew, heck we all knew, so my guess an official was the only way he could go.
Posters here read way to much into this type of deal.
If it was common knowledge last week about the visit...Dabo knew.
He's just enjoying the limelight. He'll be wearing orange on Saturdays

But Meyer is a fantastic recruiter and has been in his ear for a long time.
Dabo is a very skilled recruiter so let's let him draw any lines in the sand. He is well aware of the situation - much sooner than we are.
Sometimes the best approach, especially with something as nuanced as recruiting, is to let the coaches work it out and not bash anyone on our recruiting board.

nuanced is not dabo's word either. sure recruiting is tricky but dabo has a policy that varies by player and how good he is and how bad he needs them. he is also a hypocrite with regards to saying his commits can't go on visits after giving their pledge but he will talk to other schools commits. you can not have it both ways. he should just not any policy and deal with each player as an individual and not back himself into a corner.

and that he was just going up to watch the game. Making it an official visit changes the complexion of the visit greatly and slightly more deceptive.
could be that the coaches knew all along, but we will never know that.
