What really triggered little Beamer's epic meltdown.....

USCjr’s Juju McDowell made the gesture on a kickoff, then executed a fake designed for Nyck Harbor. That made Bielema’s angry, as his guys thought the play was dead.
Now, to put this in context, IL was running late substitutions on defense the entire game, to the point where USCjr. was forced to burn a timeout in the red zone. I thought it was pretty smart of IL, to be honest. But little Beamer didn't like it. Not one bit.
Later, an IL player was injured.
So, Bielema had gone over to see how the player was doing, and after turning to walk back to his sideline, faced Beamer and the coot huddle and made the T-bar signal, the same signal a referee would to allow for substitutions.
Then we all know what happened. Little Shane lost it.
I applaud Bielema for trolling those idiots. Master trolling, IMO.

I agree wholeheartedly. We need to exploit that rule more. Or at all. Happy New Year! Go Tigers.

I was half-kidding in suggesting we hire IL's DC.....he absolutely shut down USCjr.'s rhythm the entire game. Something pork chop was incapable of doing in November.

To be fair we held them to 17 points just like Illinois. Illinois scored more points than we did. Thats the difference.

We couldn't stop the coots when it mattered. IL did.
That's the difference.

WRONG!
The defense got the ball back on a turnover and the offense did nothing with that. You should not blame the defense when all they do is give up 17 points. You should blame the offense for not being able to score points after getting the ball on a turnover.

SC vs Clemson: 431 total yards, 267 rushing, 166 from Sellers. 3 turnovers.
SC vs Illinois: 390 total yards, 130 rushing yards, 19 from Sellers. 1 turnover.
If not for the turnovers, 2 of which where in the redzone, we would have lost by more than 3 points. Sellers absolutely ate Goodwin’s defense up by using his legs. That can be said of any team we played, even teams who do not even rely on a run game such as Texas.

This. 1,000 times this. Coots ran for nearly 270 yards against us.
IL held them to 130. That was the difference.

Why would Illinois fire Bielema?

He seems to have them around their program ceiling. 10-3 this year, 8-5 two years ago. Illinois isn't likely to do better than that with another coach, and if they did, that coach would likely be gone.
Unless there's off-the-field stuff going on I just can't imagine him being fired.

Although it is the same gesture, I really don’t think the gesture made by Bielema had anything to do with the substitutions. The only thing the substitutions had to do with it was that they already had Beamer upset.

Actually, it did: Here's Bielema's quote:
“They didn’t do anything illegal, but it put us in a position that we now — the ethic of what that is got evaporated there, because our kids stop. So when you’re a kickoff return unit, if I’m running at you and the kickoff returner back there, the guy blocking me, he doesn’t know what’s going on so he’s going to begin to engage you and we see somebody do that before the whistles are blown, you can stop, decelerate, and you don’t have these massive collisions.”

I feel sure that the late substitutions came from film study and Illinois knowing when the Coots substituted under different circumstances and this was a planned maneuver. I don't blame Beamer for being frustrated, but that was too bad and at some point needed to make adjustment on when the subs came in. All said, there needs to be some more definitive rules regarding how long defensive teams have to sub after an offensive substitution.

If it's legal, then defenses should exploit the rule until it's not.

It was hilarious seeing Beamer act like a child in his terrible 2s, running around screaming. The best part was he let IL coach get in his head. All the coot fans are screaming foul play and how the IL coach should’ve been flagged for taunting. The best part is that the dirt peckers lost. They were so sure of themselves saying they should’ve gotten a bid to the CFP and was trolling us after losing to a good Texas team. What a great way to end the year!

This statement may not be accurate.
"Beamer - being an excitable idiot - believes Bielema's gesture was a troll having to do with the slowness of his defense's substitutions that had been going on."
We do not really know what Beamer was thinking. We do not know if he thought Coach Bielema was gesturing about defense substitutions or fair catch on the kick off. But you correctly stated that Beamer is an excitable idiot.
It's a shame that most fans only know what the E$PN reporters said about Bielema "taunting" with a defense substitution signal, which we now know to be false reporting.

Additional note:
Probably not related to the "blowup", but Shane Beamer had walked over to the injured IL player and patted his buttocks. This was as the player was initially being checked out by IL players and coaches. Not sure why Beamer would do that. Seemed rather odd.
I don't think it is fair for us to say that the disputed fair catch signal (gamesmanship by Beamer) made Bret Bielema "mad". I think it is fair to say the Coach Bielema didn't like that action. "Mad" is what Beamer was after seeing Coach Bielema give that same fair catch sign as he walked past the SCAR group.
It should also be noted that Coach Beamer was so concerned that his trick play would be ruled illegal that he consulted with the refs earlier. I think that is a strong indication that Coach Beamer knew it was a bit shady. And perhaps that is why Beamer blew up after Coach Bielema confronted him by waving his arms. I suspect Beamer did not like being called out for his shady trick play, and may have felt guilty.
AND I think E$PN needs to publish a correction that Coach Bielema was NOT taunting Beamer with defensive substitution signal, and they should perhaps remove their prior false reports.
