If you were in sales and had 25% of business and competitor

Mar 2, 2014, 10:10 PM

had 75% then how long would you keep your job? Especially, if you were the market leader when you started and let it decline to 25%. I'm in sales and would have been fired years ago with that lackluster performance. 8-23 in last 31 games is same scenario.

I am also in sales. And your right. Wouldn't cut it. Unless you only started w 15% and grew to 25%.

product. Maybe keeping 25% is pretty darn good when considering what you have to sell.

When people try to make sports analogies to real life, I find them silly. Cowherd does this a good bit too.

Why do they have a better product? Because when we went

Mar 2, 2014, 11:18 PM

Head to head against them twice in Omaha and folded, it paved the way for their 2 national championships. They have built on that success and have new facilities etc but hey didn't have that at the beginning of this debacle. We set it on a silver platter for them. Basically, we gave away the business

and that was when I lost all respect for JL. He left Josh Cribb, our best pitcher in the bull pen when he had been cleared by the docs to play. Kid had a 22-7 record at Clemson and never saw the field in the CWS.

You are in sales. You currently dominate the market. Your competition receives massive support from his corporate bosses and you receive nothing to match his increased support. You lose your sales because of your bosses, not because of your actions. Clemson administration is the problem. Clemson not taking JUCO players is killing us. Look at Auburn's team. Clemson over spending on other sports at the expense of the football program is killing us. Until we adopt the Bama attitude that there is football and then the rest of the nuisance sports we have to play; we will not see excellence in our football program.

Well, you wouldn't need a job.....

If you have just 2 competitors that have alone cornered 100% of the market on whatever product or service your company makes/provides, I'd dump all of my savings into the stock of the competitor. If you have only one competitor that accounts for the sales of 3/4 of that market, I don't think anyone would have a job for too long. Unless you're product is 4x better (or your marketing department can convince 25% of the market that it is 4x better) and 25% of the market for that product agrees that it's worth at least 4x as much, you'd be ok. I've never heard of insider trading?

Either way, sports isn't judged like the real world. Always makes me think of the joke about a meteorologist and an MLB player being the only ones who can keep their job, or even be thought of as elite, for only doing their job correctly 30% of the time.
