deon cain with charone-like effort on deep balls

Nov 7, 2017, 6:30 PM

just putting this out there... in case anyone thought my pulse was skyrocketing too high

theres already been a couple examples this season, and from the de facto wr leader, id hope he would lay out for more and fight to help the qb

Definitely more like Peake

Than Nuk, or Sammy or MW. Bless him

He's playing out of position and in only his 3rd year

as a WR. He played QB in HS, only playing some WR in 7 on 7s, 'member?

Peake moved to the 9 only after MW went down as he was slated at the 5, the slot. Some players are just better at that POS, The Boundary = 9, than others as they face more double teams and usually the best & biggest corner the other team has to offer. It's a very physical role, MW was a monster there, especially in those one on one jump balls.

The staff cross-trains many of the WRs as you know just for these instances, but doesn't mean he's "built" for the role.

Cain is a fantastic WR, can take the top off, work inside or out, but he's 6'1, 190 and still learning to fight, less with his hands[he's been preoccupied fencing and it's showed], more with his body and positioning, in a role manned by MW last year at 6'4" 225+.

The best built, strongest 9 on the team right now is probably Overton, but he's no Deon overall - not yet anyway. Overton has impressed at times with his strength and his basketball skills, similar to MW, have shown through. He did get beat inside on the slant at the 5 against NCST, but he'll learn to come out of his break harder and position himself between he and the DB that broke it up.

Higgins was tried in some 50/50 opps early, but got moved off his spot, creating an Offense PI earlier in the year because he's not yet strong enough to hold off the physical players.

He and Overton have really bright futures at the 9 should they continue their work.

Don't sell Deon short and appreciate the challenge he's undertaking.

Of course some of the issues in the mid/long passing game is on our QBs, but that's another conversation.

Can’t really say I disagree. Cain hasn’t had the advantage of a QB with an accurate deep ball, but he sure has let a few catchable balls slip thru his hands. Plus he mostly falls away from the defender on those deep passes leaving the pass vulnerable to be defended and knocked away. Had hoped he would have improved his technique during the off season.

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger
