I've included some excerpts from this wonderful endorsement published just today. I'll be so proud to cast a vote for this good man:
"Given his ignorance, it is perhaps not surprising that Mr. Trump offers no coherence when it comes to policy. In years past, he supported immigration reform, gun control and legal abortion; as candidate, he became a hard-line opponent of all three. Even in the course of the campaign, he has flip-flopped on issues such as whether Muslims should be banned from entering the United States and whether women who have abortions should be punished . Worse than the flip-flops is the absence of any substance in his agenda. Existing trade deals are “stupid,” but Mr. Trump does not say how they could be improved. The Islamic State must be destroyed, but the candidate offers no strategy for doing so. Eleven million undocumented immigrants must be deported, but Mr. Trump does not tell us how he would accomplish this legally or practically."
My favorite part:
"Most alarming is Mr. Trump’s contempt for the Constitution and the unwritten democratic norms upon which our system depends. He doesn’t know what is in the nation’s founding document. When asked by a member of Congress about Article I, which enumerates congressional powers, the candidate responded, “I am going to abide by the Constitution whether it’s number 1, number 2, number 12, number 9.” The charter has seven articles."
That's a guy who totally gets the constitution.
But that's what the Post says about him, and we all know that's just a liberal rag. So here are a few excellent words from that good man himself on the specific changes he'd like to make to NAFTA. This is from his conversation with the NY Times editorial board this week. His response should be easy to follow...as long as you're not looking for coherence or proper syntax:
"HABERMAN: What kind of change could you make in terms of NAFTA without fully withdrawing from it? How could you?
TRUMP: You’ve got to be fair to the country. Everyone is leaving. Carrier just announced they’re leaving. Ford is building a massive plant. So I have a friend who builds plants and then I have to go. I have a friend who builds plants, that’s what he does, he’s the biggest in the world, he builds plants like automobile plants, computer plants, that’s all he does. He doesn’t build apartments, he doesn’t build office space, he builds plants. I said to him the other day, “How are you doing?” He goes, “Unbelievable.” Oh, great, that’s good, thinking about the United States, right, because he’s based in the United States. So I said, “Good, so the country is doing well.” He said, “No, no, not our country, you’ve got to see what I’m doing in Mexico.” He said: “The business there is unbelievable, the new plants we are building. People moving from the United States.” That’s what he does. One-story plants. You understand?"
Do you? Do you understand? Is his response crystal clear? Of course it is! Look at that thoughtful response. Look at how he very specifically goes through a detailed list of things he'd change about NAFTA, about which he stated unequviocally, "If I don't get a change, I would pull out of NAFTA in a split second." And now we all know precisely what changes he'd make, thanks to that copious and most excellent response.
Can't wait for November!
