Dark Side Moo Post on Joyce Walker reminds of Dooley/Herschel recruitment

Dooley told this story at the Savannah QB Club back in the day.
Dooley was at Johnson Co. high school in Wrightsville, GA, with his AD and an assistant, recruiting Herschel in his junior year. He saw a young lady running around the track, and the assistant confirmed it was Herschel's sister. Dooley angled over when the young lady finished some sprints, told her she was good, and introduced himself. He asked if she would be running in college, and she said yes, she had been offered scholarships to Clemson and Tennessee.
Dooley asked if she was considering UGA. She replied UGA did not have a girl's track team. Dooley told her UGA was in the the process of adding Lady's Track, and UGA would be lucky to have her. Then Dooley looked at his AD and said to get the Lady's Track program moving. Veronica Walker, future mother of Clemson TE Milan Richard, started at UGA in 1978-79. Her little brother Herschel followed her one year later.

My only story about Herschel Walker's recruitment comes from a 15th cousin 14 times removed of our bagman at the time. He says our bagman got laughed out of Herschel's living room because our bag only had $30,000 in it. Herschel said we were about $30,000 short.
Now, that may not sound like much, but per the crackculator, it would be ~$135,000+ in today's money. And, being it was all under the table, tax free, it would be ~$225,000 in real after tax money. Nothing to chortle over. But, if Jawga indeed doubled it, that would have been close to a cool Half a Mill.

The one I heard was Vince found a Trans Am with T-tops before we could find one.

and then heading downtown for dinner and Diana Krall at the Peace Center. But I can add some details about this era. I had two cousins at UGA in the 70s who were very involved in the local scene and what was going on. Also had a couple of conversations with Frank Ros from Greenville, and I briefly dated a girl at CU whose step-brother was Pat McShea. You can google em.
