Illinois self-reported a secondary violation due to the coach's use of chewing tobacco on the sidelines.
Per ESPN: "Illinois self-reported a level 2 secondary violation to the Big Ten Conference after coach Tim Beckman was seen chewing tobacco during Saturday's game against Wisconsin.
The NCAA prohibits the use of chewing tobacco for coaches, game officials and players during practice and games.
Beckman was caught on camera using the chewing tobacco during Saturday's game. He apologized on Saturday, again during his news conference on Monday and during the Big Ten teleconference on Tuesday.
"It's a bad habit, and one that definitely will be corrected," Beckman said on Tuesday.
The Big Ten will submit the violation report to the NCAA. A letter outlining the violation and any followup will be sent to Illinois and placed in Beckman's personnel file, according to a school spokesman.
A Big Ten spokesperson had no comment about the incident on Tuesday, and a request to the NCAA for comment was not immediately returned."
Poor ole Danny just couldn't make it in today's world. He'd rack up so many of these so-called "secondary violations" (and probably not be apologetic about it) he'd have to step down.
"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."
