After 2016, all the talk was about the Gumps wanting Dabo when Saban retired.
No one wants the be the guy that replaces Saban, who will naturally not live up to the Saban standard and be hated by the spoiled Gumps.

Unexpectedly, we begin to lose some games. The shine is off. Bama will look elsewhere.

Now Dabo can get back to winning National Championships and then be the guy that replaces the guy who replaced Saban and be the Hero savior.

Yep. Nailed it. Sabans replacement takes the hits while Dabo brings us back to the natty realm, we beat Bama in the first round of 12 team playoffs and the gumps start chanting “we want dabo”

No need to play it that way. He could always turn it down once. I suspect they will talk with him this go round. I also suspect they had their list prepared and their fist choice in mind.
