Dabo has only been head coach for 3 years

Jun 7, 2012, 7:39 PM

Yet has won an ACC title & been to another. I cant wait to see what this guy does with more experience. Future is gonna be great for Clemson football.

Jun 7, 2012, 7:51 PM

Maybe, maybe not. Winning the ACC was good and I give Dabo credit for bringing it home. But let's not confuse winning the weak ACC with being a great team. We have a long way to go and I think the jury is still out on Dabo. Until we develop some toughness, get more physical and have better play in the trenches, we will not be a great team. The four losses last year looked way too much like a Bowden team for my taste. Hopefully Dabo continues to improve but you might want to pump the brakes a little before giving him a job for life.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. He's done a good job so far. Good, not great.

Jun 7, 2012, 8:40 PM

Time will tell whether he's capable of taking it to the next level...sure hope he does.

With a lot of Clemson fans, and all coot fans. If Dabo was to win 16 National championships, the JURY would still be out on Dabo.

It was probably those same dumpers, passed on to their little dumpers, that said we had a weak schedule the year we won the NatChamp..but ironically, Tom Osborne said his Neb team that year was the best he had ever had.

Jun 8, 2012, 8:53 AM

He also is the first coach in my lifetime to lose to USuC for more than one year in a row, much less three.

And he did suffer the worst BCS beatdown in history.

He also has recieved more support financially than any other coaching staff in history.

I love Dabo personally but the jury is still out, IMO.

There are definitely reasons to like Dabo.

Jun 8, 2012, 1:02 PM

There are also reasons to not like him.

I don't think we should be bashing him like blue caddie does but we shouldn't be praising him as the programs savior either, like many on here do.

Losses are 1 thing. Giving up 70 in a bowl game on national TV is another.

Losing to your rival is acceptable. Losing to your rival 4, 5 times in a row is unacceptable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: There are definitely reasons to like Dabo.

I didn't realize we had lost to our rival 4 or 5 times in a row. Could you post a link about that please !!

Your pie hole

Jun 8, 2012, 1:24 PM

shut it.

This is in reference to lowcountry racantuers post/poll about people still wanting Dabo to be our coach if we were to lose to the coots in 2012 and 13.

And I'll add, losing to your rival 3 times in a row for the first time in 40 years is also unaceptable.

Jun 8, 2012, 1:58 PM

No way you'd fire him for losing to sc. All about national relevance and is what gets us top recruits, beating sc may get us state recruits. But I think state recruits minds are made up on whom they pull for

Winning the ACC doesn't help our natinal relevance but

Re: Winning the ACC doesn't help our natinal relevance but

i was with you to an extent untill you made this statement. winning any conf.'s title isn't easy, true, the acc isn't as strong as some others, but it's stronger than the perception, look at the recent nfl drafts, this league is more than holding it's own it elite talent, it's just not showing up on the playing field for one reason or another.

Jun 8, 2012, 3:20 PM

he was inspired by blue caddie. You would figure he knew I was referring to Blue Caddie/Lowlife Rancantuer's poll about what people would want done with Dabo should we lose to the dirtpeckers in 2012 and 2013, which would make it 4 and 5 losses in a row.

Jun 8, 2012, 3:45 PM [ in reply to Re: I still don't like the huge extension. ]

concerns me about next year is the inexperience at OL. As far as what type of Coach Dabo is, we will see what happens when he has to make his next OC hire.

Jun 8, 2012, 6:44 PM

fish in a small pond than the other way around. Can't imagine it being a lot of fun being the conference door mat year in and year out. I really want to beat the coots again but it seems that the disparity between the two programs has become smaller over the past three years. I honestly believe it won't be long till we're USuCks Daddy again. Agreed that the last three years have sucked but unfortunately they have become a better program.

Three painful years....

Jun 8, 2012, 6:26 PM

Some of you are happy just beating South Carolina. Others of you are happy winning a second tier conference.

Newsflash, the rest of us want to win whatever conference Clemson is in and beat South Carolina. It isn't a an either/or proposition.

In my eyes Dabo has done what Tommy was unable to do. However, losing by an average of 20 to South Carolina is also something Tommy could not do. Last year was a waste. For anyone to call last season "successful" is to show a lack of standard. And for Clemson to extend his contract is another move toward the acceptance of mediocrity.
