Saban and Spurrier both stated to rivals.com like 2 months ago that they have never cut any players.
BS Spurrier.

Coach superior could care less about any kid that can not help Jim win at any cost. Plain and simple

If you ain't playin by year 2, you gots to go". (and yes the broken English was on purpose). I signed 4 of these letters of intent and it never occured to me that I might lose my spot on the team.

I guarantee that every coach in the country has these informal talks with their 4th string juniors and seniors. Nothing underhanded or evil about it. If they were to tell him that his scholarship wasn't being renewed, that would be something else, and I think a lot more people would have issue with it.

Yes they do...I would be willing to bet dabo had the very same talk with bryce McNeal..This day and age you have to.. Coaches are judged on wins and losses, so you have to do things like this from time to time

I feel sure that ...

....our coaches have talks with kids every year where they list the options facing said player. It happens everywhere.
The ######### move by Spurrier in this case is making this discussion, which should be private between the coaches and the player, public. I for one hope that Dabo or whoever coaches at Clemson in the future doesn't pull a low class move like this regardless of how buried on the depth chart the kid is.

LOL that's a really inaccurate article. The article he quoted states that Clifford was encouraged to think about transferring. He also mentioned there were some other players who were encouraged to consider transferring.
Clifford is a 4th year player who is 4th on the depth chart behind 2 guys who are younger than him, with an All American enrolling this fall. He's never going to see the field barring catastrophe.
Spurrier is not going to pull the kid's scholarship. Compare his situation to Willy Korn's.

The guy is buried on the depth chart and will never see the field. He's trying to get him somewhere to see the field. Sorry we see it differently, but to me he's doing him a favor. Who wants to be a clipboard holder in college?

It's a smart decision, but to try and associate him with Garcia and put pressure on the kid to resign himself isn't really what a coach should do with his players.
If you gotta cut him, sack up and do it. Don't make the player feel like he's not worth keeping.

Another mysterious TD. Hooray! Guess I shouldn't badmouth Spurrier on a CLEMSON SITE.
What was I thinking.

Wow and people like you defend his actions.
You defend him pressuring the kid by doing this #### in public?
What a joke of a person you are.

now now, what Bowden did to McElrathbey was much worse than just suggesting that he might want to transfer.

Yeah, he got him a Clemson degree and set up his brother financially for a long time. I get so bored hearing the freakin' coots bring this up time and again.

ah, so as long as he gets his degree first, it's okay to cut a player? Interesting.
Ray Ray got his degree in 3 years because he worked very hard. Not because of Tommy.

The guy asked for an example and I gave him one. Sorry you are tired of hearing about it. I am sure Ray Ray felt much better if they told him "we are not renewing your scholarship even though you have two years of eligibility, so you can't continue to play the game you love..but hey you have a degree". If Clifford wanted to stay he could and continue to work towards his degree while on scholarship. Spurrier never said transfer or we are revoking your scholarship.
