students information medical and disciplinary(school records) are protected by federal laws that make coaches/universities walk a tightrope as far as what they are legally allowed to say-- otherwise the legal liability can gets opened

They don't care if someone goes to prison for leaking medical info, as long as they can publish it.
It's actually a win-win for them because then they can write a piece slamming the coach/trainer/whoever for leaking the info and then several more covering the trial.
