... how recruit rankings can go up and down when they are idle? Noticed on 247 that some of these guys move 4 or 5 spots week to week and it's been going on even in the dead of winter, so like waassupwitdat?

Most have to do with the recruits attending camps

Those recruits get priority and their ranking can move up or down depending on their performance or a specific site seeing them for the first time in person, etc..

Because recruiting rankings are a sham.

They adjust the rankings based on offers and commitments. It's more of a art than a science. The goal is to get it close to the unknowable reality, yet present it like there is some science to it. Similar to a magician or a politician.

Most of the time I believe it's bc of the star* rating, and the stars will move up and down for no other reason than what school they are going to commit to. Saying that if a 5 star loves Bama and Clemson, if he commits to Clemson, he is now a 4 star, but if he commits to Bama, he is one of the best 5* recruits in the country. And that helps determine what the class as a whole will be ranked. If he is a 5 star in Bama's class, or a 4 star in Clemson's class!!!!

If it's ESPN it is just because they hate Clemson and want to destroy us.

Uhh, go to 247 Sports. Look at the HS recruit rankings for the 2018 class. Right below their rank is the previous weeks rank. There's a lot of movement.

It's somewhere between voter fraud and collusion , depending on the recruit and the service .

It's a combination of things. How these kids do at the camps help improve some of their rankings. It also is based on offers. Have you noticed how many players have listed us as one their best offer? That's natural because we are the defending champions. That looks good on the resume. Also some sites rely on film; others actually go out and see the players.
