I doubt it matters. This is the disrespect that brings out the best in the Tigers. Don't be surprised to see us roll this weekend and get back to the true form of a championship FB team. I think we will have too much for UL. Get another "toombstone" ready.

Why would we get the respect of being a favorite when Louisville has looked much better than us this year?

I'm not disagreeing with you but just something for my fellow Tiger fans to keep in mind, looks can be deceiving. This will be our toughest game of the regular season this year but our players and coaches know what it takes to win no matter who the opponent is. Go Tigers!

I can't understand why it opened Clemson -3 to start with.
Sep 26, 2016, 5:11 PM
|
|
I was expecting louisville to be favored by a couple, and i think it was pretty clear that the public was gonna hammer louisville with that type of opening line.
I'm just hoping that Vegas is banking on the sharps putting money on Clemson.

Yep, it's all about how the betting goes. Seems that the betting public is believing is some UL this game. I hope they are very disappointed.

The sole reason for a point spread is to end up with the same amount of money bet on both sides. If that happens, the bookie is guaranteed to make 10%

worried about GT unless he or she was just trying to create some excitement.....that game went exactly as I thought it would when a clearly better team takes on a clearly inferior foe. That isn't the case with Louisville.

Ask Deshaun Watson, Boyd, Parker, Harper, Proctor, and Whitehurst. Most of these guys took a better Clemson team to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech and lost or were injured in the process. So that is why everyone was concerned about GT - Obviously we were the better team but we always are.

often. They were favored in 2003, 2005, and 2009. I *think* we may have been favored in 2007 with the Harper/Davis/Spiller team, but I'm not entirely sure. We were favored in 2011 when we were 8-0 but they were still pretty decent that year. I can't remember the line in 2014. Maybe we were really small favorites?
It's just been in the last few years that the talent gap has really swung in our favor. You would have to go back a looooong ways to find the last time we were ~10 point favorites over GT.

GT is simply way too predictable on offense. Paulllllllll Johnson may be joining Les Miles if he does not change his offensive philosophy- and it is becoming becoming increasingly offensive to Tech fans, I'm sure.

Consider we played Troy, BY and Auburn. Troy will win 10-11 games this year. GT and Auburn are solid teams. Our schedule, aside from one tough game vs DAY, has been more challenging than UL's cupcake schedule.

This is what a savvy bettor can do with a line like this.
Sep 26, 2016, 7:36 PM
|
|
They see it open at Clemson -3.5 or -3 (i never saw -3.5, but others did) and they grab Louisville +3.5 immediately and then wait for the likely swing in the line. A few days later when Louisville is favored by 3 they bet the same amount of money on Clemson +3. They've now created a "middle" where they can double dip and win both bets while also negating much of their risk. Even if the middle doesn't hit they only lose the juice on whichever bet loses (the other will win).
So if they bet $100 on each side they will win $200 if the final score is anywhere between Louisville by 2 and Clemson by 3. If Louisville wins by 3 they push the Clemson +3 bet but win $100 from the other one. If the final score is anything else they only lose $10.
5-6 points is a really big middle which is why I'm surprised the line opened where it did.

What do we know?
Sep 26, 2016, 9:22 PM
|
|
It's an honest question. I know Louisville is 4-0 and I know Clemson is 4-0. I know Lamar and Deshaun are great QBs. I know both teams have really good offenses and really good defenses. I know Coach Bobby and Coach Dabo are great coaches. I know Lamar has scored 25 TDs in 4 games. I know Clemson has one of the best defenses in the country. But here are some questions we don't know. Louisville's best win is FSU. But how good is FSU? CLEMSON'S best win is Auburn. But how good is Auburn? I know Louisville has had a lot of success this year. But how will they do playing the #5 Tigers in Death Valley? I know CLEMSON'S D stuffed the GT option. But does that mean they will stuff Lamar Jackson? At the end of the day I really don't give a d### what Vegas thinks. Clemson has not lost in Death Valley in a long time and these Tigers are battled tested and the light never seems to big. This will be the biggest game that most of the Cardinals have played in. If this game was in the Ville I might side with Louisville, but it's in the Valley and that will be the difference. These Tigers have played in the National Championship, so the stage isn't to big. But I know this, if Clemson excutes in the Valley the Tigers will be 5-0. Go Tigers!!! #ALL IN

have a great offense at the moment. We have all of the pieces of a great offense. It could all come together for us at any moment. But right now we haven't actually performed like a great offense and Louisville has. Simple as that.
Louisville has basically hit their ceiling though. It's hard to imagine them playing any better than they have through the first 4 games. We haven't come particularly close to hitting ours yet and our ceiling is at least as high as theirs, if not higher (i like our defense more than theirs). Add in the big home field advantage and we are more than capable of going toe to toe with them. We just have to show up with something a lot closer to our A game than we've seen thus far.

"But right now we haven't actually performed like a great offense and Louisville has. Simple as that."
This is not true. It is not at all "as simple as that!" We have been playing a bunch of our freshmen and other backups in all 4 games, trying to develop them and get them some real experience. Louisville, on the other hand, has been playing their starters nearly the entire games, trying to build up Lamar's stats to try to help him win the Heisman. It will be entirely different when Dabo plays the starters for most of the game and at home to boot.
Mark my words. Clemson will look like a completely different offense Saturday night. and will win!

where they were last game (they have). Watson YPA are way down, Gallmans YPC are way down, etc.
I'm not trying to slam the offense here. I said we have all the pieces. We have as much upside on that side of the ball as anyone.
But if you don't think this offense has been struggling and playing below their potential you are drinking the orange kool aid.
We might put it all together Saturday night. It wouldnt surprise me at all if we did. We haven't done so yet though.

Great points!
Here's what we do know: the last time Clemson was stomped at home to an ACC team was against FSU, when they played a freshman QB who went on to win the Heisman and National Championship that year. Sound familiar?
So what do we know? Honestly - very little. But the last time we saw this kind of talent walk into death valley, we underestimated it and it kicked our butts for 4 quarters.
I hope that our defense puts a QB spy on the field to watch Lamar the entire game like Bama did to Watson in the natty.
Go Tigers!~

How did that help out for Bama. 1st downs, Clemson 31, Bama 18, total yards Clemson 550, Bama 473. Passing yards, DW4 405, what's his name 335. Personally I don't think putting a spy on DW4 helped Bama very much, but that could have been bc of DW4's Superman speed. Go Tigers, and do your job by sending those woodpecker's back to Kenturkey with their butts and their feelings hurt. And totally embarrassed for counting their little bird eggs before they had a chance to hatch!!!

Headline should be "Louisville is now a road favorite over Clemson". If you go plural, it has to be "Louisville are now road favorites over Clemson."
