Conferences with 20 league game schedules getting less teams in NCAAs

It's simple math when looking at the major basketball conferences

20 league game Conferences (w/ probable # of Tournament bids):
ACC (5)
Big East (4)
BIG10 (5)
Pac12 (2)

18 League game conferences (w/probable tournament bids):
Big 12 (9)
Mountain West (6)
SEC (8)


Now let's look at one hypothetical if the ACC traveled the same path as the some of these other leagues by replacing two conference games with a couple Quad4 games early in the season. Assuming ACC's top 6 teams won those games their records would currently look like this:
UNC 24-4
DUKE 24-4
VA 23-6
CLEM 22-6
WAKE 20-8
'CUSE 21-7

I think anyone would agree the perception of the league would be quite different as at least 4 of these teams would be ranked on their record alone as most teams on the top 10 have recorded resembling Clemson's hypothetical 22-6.

This same theory applies to other conferences. Purdue and UConn, the two best teams in CBB, each play in conferences that won't get as many bids as the Moutain West and the Big East and SEC will receive double or nearly double. Seems odd.

Now let's look at the flip side of this, and suppose the Mountain West played two more conference games in a league that no one has separated themselves from one another in the top half of the league or how about the almighty SEC? We all know league games (top to bottom) are tougher to win, especially on the road. Here's what the top six records from the SEC may look like adding two more league games; and let's say each team added a victory at home but took a loss on the road:
TENN 21-7
'BAMA 19-9
Suck 22-6
FLORIDA 19-9
KENTUCKY 19-9
AUBURN 20-8

Hmmm. Side by side the ACC and SEC would look DRAMATICALLY different than they do now.

Obviously wins are still important and, there is something to aesthetically pleasing overall records. Just look at Dayton, St. Mary's, Utah St- all apart of 18 or less league game conferences and currently top25 teams that would struggle to be .500 in the ACC (IMO).

What do ya'll think? Are leagues handicapped by 20 league games and 18 or less conferences are propped up?
