Conference alignments

Nov 27, 2012, 11:31 AM

All of this conference moving in my opinion isn't the smartest of things. College football is going to be ruined if teams keep swapping and joining. Clemson needs to stay in the ACC. Fans can go to road games a lot easier and if we were in the Big 12 or Big 10 how many would really go to Kansas or Texas or Michigan or Minnesota for games? Traditions are being messed up to; I'm only 22, but I love hearing about Oklahoma vs. Nebraska and watching rivals play every year. Personally I think 10 teams should be in a conference, play 9 conference games 3 non conference and that way it cuts out the "crap" game against SC State or The Citadel. Sorry for the long response.

What will ruin college football for Clemson fans is if we stay in the ACC and end up with a schedule equivalent to ECU.

ACC ship, and we are left behind, I'd rather not be in a conference where our Mar-quee matchups are Duke and Pitt.

I'm all for staying, and if I felt like we were the kingpin I'd stay we would be stupid for leaving.

However, if Clemson gets wind of other schools leaving, and a few other pins fall (if UNC ends up leaving, you know the ACC is dead), we should try to get out ASAP. We can't afford to be school #8 to leave the ACC, we need to be school #3-4.

Maryland left, but there is a good chance the ACC can still stay together. If 2-3 more schools leave, we may find ourselves backed into a corner.

Stay if we can, but we can't remain stuck in an irrelevant conference based believing realignment was bad for football. IF the ACC looks like it has truly become left out of Major football, or will be in the future, we need to leave and not get stuck because we are whining that others shouldn't have left.

If you believe the defenseless receiver penalty is bad for football, you are more than welcome to that opinion. However, you better not do what the penalty describes. Its the same way with your argument. I too believe that realignment is not doing college footballs health any favors. However, if it looks like it is inevitable, I'd prefer to be one of the schools in an unhealthy college football, and not be a dead football program.

Clemson has the talent to compete with a lot of teams. It comes down to the effort and the will to win and not make excuses and not get out coached. For example, Boise State a few years ago played in a weak conference and dominated it. They did this with way less talent than Clemson. They played out of conference teams that were quality opponents and nobody wanted to play them. Clemson can do the same, but consistently dominating the ACC needs to be done first and we can't say that we can do that.

Its' already ruining it. College athletics, esp football

are/is more about money now. I know that can be said for many things in life, but I personally don't like seeing money run college football. And I'd say that even if we were in SEC, BIG 12, et. al.

I don't get how "money is ruining football"...

In years past, the Big slow Ten always seemed to jump better teams because their conference was weak, so they'd go to the championship or big bowl, and get blown out. Now, the B1G has two divisions and a championship game, which reduces the chances of any of their teams skating through with a cupcake schedule, and the increased competition has improved the conference overall.

I don't see how that's bad.

It's bad for us, sure, because we're in a pathetic conference that doesn't care about football. That's our fault.
