Committee had it right for ACC and Clemson

Where 3rd is better than being 6,7, 8 like Brad normally does - it was fools gold as beating less than decent teams is not something to hang a banner from LJ rafters - like Brads buddies wanted us to do for finishing 3rd. It appears we may not have a single ACC team make it thru the first weekend. Not sure when the last time (if ever) that has happened. Miami has to carry the burden tonight. They better play better than their last game.
ACC basketball domination ended maybe 10 years ago and now is well back of the leaders.
Time to make changes, starting with a new leader for Clemson BB. When your measuring stick is against a declining conference - you are fooling yourself.
Syracuse, unc, GT, Louisville, Wake, ND, Duke have all made recent (within a couple of year) changes - some due to performance, some retirement - but still willing to make changes to get back to where they expect to be. If Neff is happy, it says a lot about his interest in men’s basketball.

Kind of hard to argue given the conference's abysmal post-season results...

Neff is the issue. Good to see blame placed where it lies. We’ll never get better when the overall expectation is low.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Recruiting is the issue

2

Mar 19, 2023, 4:34 PM

Although I’m not sold of Neff, he isnt directly responsible for that. We can’t control the state of the conference. However we should be able to take advantage. The rest of the talent in the league has just fallen to our level. This next years recruiting class is abysmal. Not seeing that change any time soon, so unless there is a change I don’t know how we expect anything different.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't be so hard on Neff! I'm confidant he will make a chang

Mar 19, 2023, 8:31 PM [ in reply to You are right! ]

next year, if things don't improve. What if we still had D-Rad in charge...Brownell would essentially have a life-time contract!

We have heard enough and we know you are unhappy. No need to keep repeating yourself by continuing to torch Coach Brad Brownell. He will make all of y'all unhappy again next season when he makes the tournament. Curses!!! Another 20-win season and a trip to the tournament??? He needs to be fired on the spot!!!

Re: Give it a rest

The odds are pretty good based on the past experience of the last 13 years that Brownell won't make us unhappy and make the tournament.

Unless you mean the Not Invited Tournament...in which case he does have a knack for making that one more than getting left out.

"Wait till next year".

23 wins + weak SOS + plus horrific losses = 60th in NET.

You say we're going to repeat this season next year with the exception of getting in the tournament, but your monumental error is that this season was bad and we underachieved. This was the season to get something accomplished.

Inateas, a 60-something NET ranking and another sub top-40 season. Truth is, this season was NOT successful, and next year will be even worse.

Please try to be less delusional.

What you and others don’t realize is that your response keeps them going. If you’d just scroll past and ignore them, they’d be more likely to stop. It’s my hope for Judge’s posts. Ignore him and maybe he’ll troll elsewhere. And yes I realize the irony of my post.

Yay! We might get to go to the Not Invited Tournament again and lose embarrassingly in the first round at home. Been there done that a few times under this coaching staff.

But you and Brownell Bros go ahead and get excited about that if you want to.

Is this what Clemson Athletic Bosses & Fans want?

There are no two ways about it.

You really singing praises of a 60th NET and a 1st round loss to a bottom dwelling small school. That's not successful; it sucks.

Wake up!

Neff has already announced the decision.

1

Mar 19, 2023, 5:46 PM

No changes at the head spot.

Not that I disagree with what you're saying in general, but there's no sense talking about, "time to make changes".

It's not happening until at least the end of next season, so just hold on and enjoy the beauty that is Bradsketball until then.

This was the year to prove it. Best roster and new coaches, but no, too much choking, as usual. Regardless, we'll likely not do as well next year as this year, and 2023-24 will finally spell the end for the (likely) lame duck.

It needs to be expressed loudly, daily so Neff is under no impression he can get away with it again.

Last 10 years - ACC 3 National Champs by 3 different teams

2

Mar 19, 2023, 6:02 PM

Big Twelve - 2 by 2 diff teams; Big East - 2 (same teams) AAC -1 - note: Covid year - no tourney and the title from 10 years ago was won by Louisville but vacated. UCONN back in the BE after being in the AAC when they won it

Amazing how 1 year is translated to 10. Last year the ACC had 3 of Elite 8 and 2 of FF including the national runner-up. This was with only 5 bids. The ACC had the best record in the NCAA despite being screwed on bids(something that is broken and needs fixing).

When’s the last B10 champ win,?SEC?PAC? It’s been a longtime. Maybe those 2nd rate basketball conferences finally breakthrough this year. Then again, maybe not!

B10 has 2 more chances to get a team or 2 to the sweet 16 - we’ll see. They have once again fallen well short of what they are being given in terms of bids. SEC getting 3 to S16 is about average given the 8 bids. We’ll see how they progress also.

Re: Last 10 years - ACC 3 National Champs by 3 different teams

Mar 23, 2023, 7:27 AM

There is a very clear difference between a single team and a good conference. Back when Kentucky was winning, the sec stunk. Did that make them a good conference? No.
Same for ACC. The quality of a conference is the low to middle teams.
In the 70-90s, the ACC was king. No longer.

This! Very well said. Still think Neff might be being led by the BOT on his decision. He is a basketball guy and got a feeling if this is going againt his wishes he might get tired and go and leave for a place where they want to win in bkball...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I really don't know what the problem is here....

Mar 19, 2023, 8:26 PM

Neff said he thought 'we were an NCAA Tournament team'. Then he said he 'was moving forward with Brad'.

I don't remember him saying that Brad was/is an NCAA Tournament Coach, nor that "forward" indicates any period of long term stasis.

Other than firing Brad on the spot, I think he came close to getting it right.

Not true Clemson should have gotten in before Nancy State or Pittsburg. Even if they lost 1st Round by 50 still deserved over both teams. Clemson beat NCSU 3 times so total joke them in. Few teams got in with less than .500 in conference play. Go Houston Cougars for Natty. They were truly best team entire season.

100% agree! Beating a team 3 times by an average of 21 points trumps any ridiculous computer rating system. And that system has no consideration for rankings by teams you beat early that faded later. Could be injury or suspension or who knows what that led to their slide.
