Co Worker - hating on Dabo

Dec 7, 2015, 10:24 AM

One of my co workers basically told me that our coach should be fired for his outburst on Andy Teasedall.
Really?
It's football - what has happened where you can't emphatically yell at someone that goes off the plan...
Our punter messed up...it will never happen again...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ask Andy how he feels, bet his says he loves his coach!

My kids still love me but when I have lost it in similar fashion with the them, I know I went to far and I apologized later. Hopefully Dabo did the same to the young man...if Dano truly practices what he preaches.

Re: Ask Andy how he feels, bet his says he loves his coach!

Dec 7, 2015, 12:13 PM

Teasdall could have had 60-70 teammates chew him out for that stunt, too. They all worked too hard to get where they are for him to unilaterally pull that stunt and compromise all of that work. Dabo's the coach...and his actions don't necessarily reflect his own personal views, but those of the team, too. Dabo didn't 'lose it'...he was protecting the team. Did Dabo continue berating Andy the rest of the game? Was AT pulled from the game? Did you see the locker room video where he kidded Andy?

Well...he certainly went back for a few more shots at him on the seidelines AND threw him under the bus at halftime (interview). If we had lost, do you think he would have joked about it in the locker room?

Re: Ask Andy how he feels, bet his says he loves his coach!

Dec 7, 2015, 12:21 PM

He answered the question...it was not a called play. The truth is not throwing someone under the bus. The whole country saw that ### moment...it's not like any logical person was expecting that play...and naturally, who are you gonna ask?

Agree. Dabo over-reacted in this case. 1 yelling is fine. The 3rd time was over the top. Dabo has shown he knows better and has High Standards for himself and others. I am sure Dabo will admit his mistake to Andy.

So who does your Co Worker root for? I bet he's not saying that about Satan, I didn't seethe game but the announcers were talking about how Satan was in someone's face and it was worse than the Florida coach screaming at his RB that scored and did the throat slash.

I told him if I was the coach it may have been worse. If it was a forth and five??? Maybe but not a forth and fifteen...that was just stupid to even try. Had he bobbled the snap...maybe but ...he deserved a good earful.

in their game. For some reason, coaches don't take kindly to players costing the team yards, possessions, and possibly games. (At least some of them don't. Some just have this pained expression all the time like they are passing gas, and quit in the middle of the season.)

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had this discussion with my girlfriend

Dec 7, 2015, 10:36 AM

She is new to football, but has watched every Tiger game with me this year. Last week she commented on the number of times the gamecock coach was shown yelling at his players. He was screaming at folks who made mistakes, and she commented that it seemed harsh to yell at a guy who made a bad read (not her words) and threw an interception.

Then this week when Dabo was giving our punter an ear full, we were talking about the difference between getting onto someone for making a mistake, and getting on a player for trying to be a hero and making a bone-headed play.

Dabo was angry, but the anger came from a player trying to not play his role. He tried to be a hero and it cost the team. Dabo let him know it emphatically, and it is outside his normal actions/reactions to players so I see NOTHING wrong with it at all.

Re: Co Worker - hating on Dabo

Dec 7, 2015, 10:50 AM

As much as it pains me to say it...I think what Dabo did was way over the top. I think everyone would expect the player to get a good chewing after doing something so boneheaded...however, I think he went too far AND he threw him under the bus during the half-time interview. I would have hoped that based on hearing him speak of keeping things in perspective and how football is just a game, etc. that he would have handled it differently. Glad we won and the young man doesn't have to live with that...buts certainly lost some respect for Dabo after witnessing that. I hope he at least apologized to Andy in private.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Co Worker - hating on Dabo

Dec 7, 2015, 10:59 AM

Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars could have been lost by that bonehead decision. Go do something that would cost whoever you work for that much money and see how your boss reacts. Also, since I know that wasn't the reason, it could have cost the game. Thousands of fans were watching and pulling for Clemson. He almost cost the team (his teammates a chance at history. Dabo was WELL within his rights to berate that player. Heck it wasn't even bad. Never once have I seen Dabo lose his cool in an inappropriate manner. He never touched the guy and never really got in his face. He maintained a professional distance while letting him have it. If Teasdall doesn't like it he can quit. Nobody is forcing his hand. Also, Dabo joked about it in the locker room. Get a grip people it is a sport where 200-300 lb players smash each other and it generates billions in revenue.

Re: Co Worker - hating on Dabo

Dec 7, 2015, 11:04 AM

I just expect better from our coach. Again...perspective..unless it is life and death , I'm not sure there is anything worth getting that upset over. Andy already knew he screwed up...and if my boss ever yelled at me like that I would kick his ###. No room for that kind of disrespect, especially in public. I think what really bothered me was throwing him under the bus at halftime.

Dec 7, 2015, 11:44 AM

I bet you're all for participation trophies too aren't you?

Give me a freakin' break. Dabo went easy on him if you asked me. HeII if that was Danny Ford, Teasdall would have been running gassers from the time they got back to the stadium probably until about an hour ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I think you need to grow a set and become a man...

Dec 7, 2015, 12:23 PM

Actually I'm not for participation trophies...but I believe we should all be able to keep ourselves in check. I think you and others are being huge homers on this issue. I'm not saying he didn't deserve a good dressing down...it was just over the top...and any good leader doesn't call out a subordinate in public.

Dec 7, 2015, 11:50 AM [ in reply to Re: Co Worker - hating on Dabo ]

It was a decision to call his own number. Totally unacceptable. There's a huge difference if him making a mistake (i.e. fumbling, bad kick) and deciding that hey.. I'm just going to ignore the coaches and do what I want.

Re: That wasn't a mistake..

Dec 7, 2015, 12:31 PM

Do we know that's what happened? Go back and watch the play and note the pressure coming at him from the right. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that he may have thought he was going to get the kick blocked and was trying to make the best of a bad situation. Not saying his decision to run was the right one, but but maybe he also didn't just 'call his own number'.

A mistake of that magnitude and arrogance in the professional world would get you (and your boss) fired on the spot and possibly include jail time and/or substantial civil liability. Someone needs to yell at the kid before he hurts someone. His parents obviously didn't. I can't imagine what was going through his head.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I have watched it. Multiple times because I couldn't

Dec 7, 2015, 12:57 PM

I think you are trying to attach more importance to his mistake than is called for...not saying the kid didn't screw up and that he didn't deserve to get yelled at...just that Dabo crossed a line. When I saw it live I couldn't believe how hard he went after AT.

Dec 7, 2015, 12:14 PM

Did Dabo lose it? Yeah he did. But rightfully so. He yelled at him at the point of the mistake which is correct. Then he went after him again when UNC was marching down and scoring to show him the gravity of his mistake. Then he mentioned it on tv bc it was the elephant in the room. But it wasn't a bad throw under the bus. I do wonder if anything happened in the locker room. But ultimately the player went back out and did his job. He didn't tear him down or end his career. I'm sorry I'm in the military and will cry no tears for Teasdale. I think Dabo did what he needed to do and moved on. The team was falling apart right afterwards and it was a big deal. I think Dabo did exactly right. Go Tigers and Go Teasdale! Learn, move on, and win!
