Why not just vote to dissolve the conference?

I count at least 10 teams that would have a landing spot in B1G, SEC or Big 12. Why wouldn't these teams just vote to dissove the conference and leave while paying nothing? (From south to north)
Miami, FSU, GT, Clemson, UNC, NCSU, UVA, VT, UL, Pitt

prohibitive reason why not to do it OR they really don’t have enough schools willing to join in.

FSU and Clemson will no longer be allowed to vote since they have filed suit. At least that will be the ACC argument.

No vote would imply they've already released them from the conference.***

pathetic IPtay dues that UNC had already been double secretly making deals with the SEC and or BIG,
Sign a new deal.. don't tell any 1 until it is signed.. and then throw your academic sandal lawyers at the ACC.

Pure speculation here: I think that is in their back pocket to be used at a later date if necessary. I think these initial lawsuits are good for fact finding. To see what the courts will make the ACC produce (contracts with ESPN, etc), and to see what kind of a fight the ACC will put up. Also, I would think it would be simpler for each school to leave on it's own and find a conference now, than to dissolve and flood the market with available schools. Less competition for spots in other conferences.

Nobody landing in the Big 12 would vote for that. The ACC as it is now is better that a cobbled-together Big 12.

much to share from insiders on its viability. I had pitched it seeking a different outcome, though, where a majority just outright dissolves the conference together, with an agreement to reform together as a football-heavy conference of its own. UVA and GT from above would not be included here, but the rest would. The next step would be to invite those two plus the remaining ACC leftovers to join together for all sports - keeping the geographic benefits there - and with their own football division. The primary football division would have its own media deal, all together for all other sports would have a separate agreement, and lastly the undercard football division would have its own separate payout.
The goal here was cutting the football dead weight out, amping up the value with the stronger programs and venues playing and being featured more often, paying them accordingly, then pricing out the rest accordingly. We could add a few eastern schools to the mix that would be in the lower football division and engaged in all other sports. Say a UConn, USF, Temple, Memphis - something along those lines. Recruit West Va over from the Big XII to join the football heavies and we are suddenly an East Coast college sports powerhouse with media rights for the football-centric programs that more closely resemble our competitive set.
In a way this echoes Dabo's belief that football will ultimately break off into its own organizational structure. This would be us and other stronger football programs in the region taking that step unilaterally.

Let’s assume you’re one of the mid-tier ACC schools, let’s pick Louisville for this example.
- you know the ACC in it’s current form is going to change in the near future - you’re not attractive enough to receive an invite from the B1G or SEC - you feel pretty confident you would have a landing spot in the also-ran Big 12, when the time comes - you assume the mostly likely outcome of Clemson, FSU, and probably UNC trying to leave is a negotiated settlement. In fact, you can use your influence with the conference to push for this when the time is right. - you know from the FSU lawsuit that the cost to leave (exit fee + GOR) is $572M per school - assume this gets settled for $200M. That’s $600M total for Clemson, FSU and UNC. Split that among 14 schools and each remaining school would get around $43M. Would be even more if Cal, Stanford and SMU don’t get a share of this money.
So, if I’m Louisville, I sit tight. I’m probably set to get a nice check and then could still jump to the Big 12 if I choose, assuming it is more attractive than a reformed ACC.
