Clemson vs unCheat by the numbers

Nov 30, 2015, 10:28 AM

Total Offense - Clemson 14, UNC - 16

Passing Offense - Clemson 23, UNC - 33

Rushing Offense - Clemson 25, UNC - 18

3rd Down Offense - Clemson 15, UNC - 12

Total Defense - Clemson 7, UNC - 65

Passing Defense - Clemson 4, UNC - 19

Rushing Defense - Clemson 24, UNC - 105

3rd Down Defense - Clemson 1, UNC - 91

SOS(Sagarin) - Clemson 47, UNC - 63(no games against top 30 competition)

SOS(FO) - Clemson 29, UNC - 117

So against a better schedule, numbers show that we have a better overall Offense and a much better Defense with huge disparities in certain phases.

I don't think this game will be as close as people think. We will be BY FAR the best team unc has seen all year, and they'll be the 3rd best team we've faced. (4th if you want to count the fact that they lost to usuck)

EDIT: I agree that TOs are a big deal, but 2 of our TOs saturday were flukes. How many times have you seen Gallman or Tay fumble?

Don't cloud the issue with facts. We're DOOMED!***

We win if we can control the game running the ball, win the turnover margin, finish drives with points, and make some stops on D. We don't have to shut them down though it would be nice.
We only need DW to lead the team and find a way to win.

All those numbers are great but we just really need to focus on not turning the ball over. Especially against a team with a pretty good offense. No turnovers = we win by double digits

My biggest concern isn't whether or not we're the better team, because we are, but rather how exhausted our defense is at this point in the year. If we turn it over 2 or 3 more times than they do, it will likely cost us the game. I think the key to this game is to run the ball against their poor run defense and keep our defense off the field and fresh.

Just don't turn the ball over, and we'll be ok.***

Re: Clemson vs unCheat by the numbers

I think the only real area that UNC can hurt us is running cut backs off tackle. Lately our LB's have been swarming the outside and the cutbacks inside have resulted in some big chunk plays. UNC has a high 4 star in Elijah Hood, he has quick cuts and a low center of gravity.

If we maintain gap integrity then it shouldn't be a problem.

Go Tigers!

Numbers on UNC def are a little deceptive

Nov 30, 2015, 11:41 AM

they give up a lot of yards, 65th at around 395/gm, but not many pts, 20th at 18.8/gm.

That suggests they get turnovers, and hold teams to fg's.

But they do get shoved around and let teams run on them. Their secondary is the strength of the defense.

It's turnovers. They're +9 in that category.

Nov 30, 2015, 12:23 PM

Their red zone D is nothing to write home about, and they've allowed teams 44 red zone visits, vs. Clemson's 29.

Great post. I tend to start "awfulizing" and get nervous thinking about the game. Whenever I start feeling that way, I'll read this.

Note to 8992: need to visualize our smooth, fast offense and our swarming, punishing defense. Ahhh, better.
