lose a line recruit to Michigan. You can't assume that the coaches didn't try, especially when it was down to two. Unless the kid made a comment like "Well, I wanted to go to Clemson but they didn't seem interested."

who won't help us here.
What many of us are saying though is that the belief that there are no players in the portal who can start or play significant snaps for us is ludicrous, especially since we've seen transfers make a significant impact at elite programs such as Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia.
The reality is that Dabo doesn't like the transfer portal and feels that using it goes against his ideal scenario, which is recruiting high school players and developing them. Of course that would be preferable, but his hard line stance on this has the potential to hurt our program. It could be argued that it already has.

program.
My evidence is our unbelievably good program.
I'm still waiting for someone to point out the player we needed but chose not to pursue that has gone on to make a contribution elsewhere. The only name I keep hearing is Oluwatimi, who according to this article chose Michigan over Clemson. Are we assuming that we didn't have any interest? Regardless, it will be interesting to see what impact he has...I'm always told (and have no idea because of my limited football knowledge) that offensive lines must be a cohesive unit...will one year there be enough time?
https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/2021/12/27/michigan-football-recruiting-olusegun-victor-oluwatimi-transfer-from-virginia-commits/
In short, Dabo developed a philosophy where he makes a commitment to recruits that if they choose Clemson that can work hard and possibly contribute. The result is two national championships, seven (I think?) ACC Championships, multiple playoff appearances and a top notch graduation rate and academic reputation in his program. Recruiting seems to continue to be lights-out. Would it be as good if kids thought they might get layered if it serves that year's goals? I don't know. Other coaches use the mercenary approach and get whomever might help them that season, and build no cohesive culture. The results kind of speak for themselves.

Logic dictates to stymie loss via transfers the only available avenue is accessing the portal through intake, continually replacing 4* transfers with additional walk-ons will grow & grow into a very noticeable problem-

Replacing them with someone else’s “walk-offs” sounds like a much better idea?

In some cases maybe so. Why not? These guys aren't criminals they just didn't fit where they were. That could have been for all kinds of reasons.

Why this is so hard for some people to see is beyond me.
As I said, I don't think filling the roster with these transfers is smart, but if we put any effort into getting a couple that we need, we would have seen the results.
Hard not to believe this will hurt us in the future if we want to sniff another natty. Other elite teams are going to stop us with them. Already have twice!

who either don't work hard, aren't talented, or have attitude problems, and taking them would hurt our team chemistry and disrupt the family atmosphere. LOL!
The fact that Dabo and Eason have publicly criticized the portal or players in the portal leads me to believe that they have no desire of changing their stance on this. They are "all in" on relying on players from high school.

And at the end of the day, the man gets paid a lot of $$$ to make those decisions, not me.
I just see certain areas we could really have/can used/use a good portal player or two.

And I can see Dabo pursuing some transfer RB's in upcoming years -- Etienne li'l bro comes to mind if things do not pan out at Florida.

My thoughts

Honestly, I feel like in order to win the transfer portal game, you've got to tamper to get a headstart on the transfers who want to move to a better spot for them (Like Addison to USC or that Ga Tech RB that went to Bama).
I mean, we did see that Clemson was interested in that VA lineman that decided Michigan was where they wanted to go.
However, I think the biggest thing for Dabo with the portal isn't just maintaining the culture at Clemson but the fact that he (or one of his own staff) would have to get dirty and tamper or jump into the NIL bidding frenzy to pull serviceable or even star transfers.
Overall, less someone in the know comments it's all a guessing game.
I mean, since we're are heading to the inevitable 2 Power Conference model sometime soon, it may work itself out anyways as I'm sure there are going to be rules established to make more sense for everything going on.
