Baseball scholarships are strange in that you have a seriously limited number.
It's stupid, but those are the rules.

My question is why were the gloves ever on?

We know they play dirty. Treat them accordingly. Beat them, period.

Thankfully baseball is not an important sport.

Although, I had not previously heard that college baseball seems to be the one sport where poaching is considered taboo.
I played when you still spiked fielders, even though the cleats were standard plastic/rubber, versus the old days when players would sharpen their metal spikes and go for blood.
We scratched, we spit, we cussed, we threw at opposing players, charged opposing pitchers, flattened opposing catchers and threw punches.
I'm glad to hear college baseball recruiting is a daintier process.

When I played, we did use steel spikes and I still have the gash scar on my left knee where a first baseman kicked off the bag just as I was being called out after advancing a runner on a bunt. Shortly after ('bout a nanosecond), the first baseman was also out for a while.....
Flashing spikes to make an infielder wary was fine - as was spiking the infielder's glove...... But it was never cool to intentionally try to gash an infielder..... Much less a base runner.
Playing hard is one thing........ Playing dirty is completely different and totally unacceptable.

Even though it's easy to get confused, let's not forget that sports is neither Love nor War.

care whether you go to Clemson or USuC.
If that is how the kid feels we're better off without him.
