Clemson Special Teams

I would like to see Dabo Swinney put a little effort into Special Teams in 2022 for the first time in his tenure at Clemson.

Before I rile up the Dabo faithful, this has been a deliberate move on Dabo's behalf to be conservative with Special Teams's play as Clemson has been just so much better than the rest of the ACC, it has not mattered and he has been able to focus on other basics.

But special teams' play would represent an opportunity under a quirky new ST coach.

he put starters on the ST who simply bull rush the 3rd string guys trying to block them.
rugby stuff.. just run away from them an hope your kicker doesn't fork it up.

Shipley returned a lot of kicks this year

and did break a long one. When Taylor was healthy he was near the top in punt returns. Potter and Spiers were outstanding.

You want us to try to block more punts? Because that's the only area special teams weren't very good this year

We were 109 in punt returning. 15 yards per punt ahead of the top teams. This is a huge area of opportunity.

Super vague. "Dabo Swinney put a little effort into Special Teams" What specifically?

Field goals:
Clemson is 15th in field goals. Pretty high. Does Dabo needs to put more effort into making FG's? ? fIND A PK AS GOOD AS pOTTER? score more TD so we dont need stupid FGs?

Punting
Clemson was 85th. Pretty low . Some of this could be attributed to punt coverage some to spiers leg. Some due to field position.. Short field = short punts. here.? Spiers is leaving so he will definitely get a new punter. What esle do you think dabo should do here? Better punt coverage?

I only did 2 examples but off the top of my head the below could also apply to special teams:
kick offs
Punt ret
onside kicks
kick off returns
blocked fgs
blocked punts
fake punts
fake FG's.

IF you provide more detail more and supporting facts (more than1) .. it could be a logical , meaningful discussion. low chance..but possible .

Maybe Dabo should consider re-hiring the special teams coach from the 1980’s teams. I believe he is geographically
close, and is available if we can get him off of his tractor.
