Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC

I think the SEC needs to ask us to join. Coots will always blackball us and keep us out. We were a founding member of the SEC and chose to leave. Not sure the SEC really wants us back. They would more than likely take FSU and UNC. They already have the SC TV market by having the coots in their conference.

Yes. Sewanee, GT and Tulane are the only 3 founding members that left the SEC over time.

Me thinks you are talking about the original Southern

Conference which lost members resulting in the creation of both the SEC and ACC. Look it up!

Clemson was never in the SEC

Nov 25, 2022, 8:01 PM [ in reply to Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC ]

I think you're confusing SOCON (Southern Conference) with the SEC.

Clemson was in the SOCON conference from 1921-1953 and then became a founding member of the ACC in 1953.

Number 1, we are in a conference, number 2, we have not been invited, number 3, we don't have the money to buy out the GOR and number 4, we would be little fish in every sport we play.

No! We do not need to go to the SEC or Big, Clemson is just fine where they are at the present time.

Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC

Nov 25, 2022, 8:25 PM

Let me rephrase. Clemson was a founding member of the Southern conference along with Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ga. Tech, Virginia Tech, Virginia and others. This conference eventually morphed into what is now called the SEC. As you can see several teams left and formed the ACC. I think there was a dispute over academic requirements.

Point is we were in the conference with the big boys and chose to leave. Google it if you don’t believe it!

As soon as possible!

Is Clemson leaving for the SEC likely? feasible with GOR? I cannot answer. But you are correct in your assessment that Clemson will soon be competing against Bama, Gamecocks, UGA, LSU and the rest of the SEC and their $100 million per year budget. SEC schools will pay head coaches double the salaries that Dabo earns, and the SEC recruiting edge will increase even more significantly. Eventually, the Clemson model of playing with 40% of SEC teams' TV revenue breaks down when Dabo and Clemson can no longer recruit top players or compete on the field.

Such a stupid comment, as usual. I thought we had some stupid tee shirt fans, but y’all take the cake. All Clemson needs to do is win, it’s really that simple. Clemson goes unbeaten and they’re in the playoffs just like any other name program. Even a one loss Clemson is probably in. That’s reall that matters.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

a one loss Clemson is "probably" in? LOL

Nov 30, 2022, 8:58 AM

See there is the rub. Forget the fact that we get absolutely slaughtered in the network payouts, if you have a one loss SEC team, they are virtually guaranteed to get in. Youd have to have 2 losses at minimum to be left out as an SEC school. Meanwhile Clemson lost to ND and our playoff chances were all but gone instantly. Yes there was still a chance but we would have needed a ridiculous number of things to all fall into place.

Nov 30, 2022, 9:35 AM [ in reply to Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC ]

Great post name recognition and everyone will looking at us and little Paul will always be bit**ing about us and our winning! Everyone calling for us bolting to the SEC must have been 'frat rats' cause they need the emotional support of a larger organization...Clemson, FSU, UNC, and others can make the ACC a greater organization...look at the last winners of Natties and see that only the dismal loss of FSU as a major contender has hurt us...and the fact that we brought in some losers like Louisville, Syracuse etc...Odd that ND has stayed out so long...maybe they saw it! Some reallignment with Clemson and FSU in separate divisions might be warranted!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC

Nov 30, 2022, 7:18 AM

Why? So they will have more losses from Ga, Ala, Tenn, Auburn at times, Florida, LSU, TX A&M? Not a good idea!!!!!!!!

Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC

Nov 30, 2022, 7:29 AM

Don’t worry. College football might move to two super conferences, SEC big ten, but it won’t stay that way for long. Clemson and quite a few others are in a great position. We will end up compensated as well as any other team. It just might take a few years and a few realignment iterations before we get there.

We would get killed with this coaching staff! Don't fool yourself, we're the tallest midget in a very bad conference and we play them down to the last drive.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo wants no part of being in the SEC.

Nov 30, 2022, 11:44 AM

With the coaching staff we have, we'd be lucky to win 5 games in the SEC.

Re: Clemson and FSU need to bolt to SEC

Nov 30, 2022, 12:02 PM

This is a quandary.

In the ACC, we stand a great chance of winning in Football but we have consistently been behind in cash disbursements from the ACC vs. B10 and SEC.

In the SEC, we stand to make more money but have a lesser chance of winning in football, but a better chance of winning in Basketball. The SEC doesn't play Men's Soccer so we would have to go to some BS conference like the coots. Based on the championships that are won by the SEC in other sports, we may suffer (or rise) in other sports.

The reality is that South Carolina is a small state compared to GA/NC/FL/VA/etc. and the coots have the state locked down by being a member of the SEC. We have to ask ourselves, would the SEC benefit from adding Clemson vs. expanding their SE blueprint to NC? VA? FL? The reality is no.

So let's enjoy what we have and hopefully, the ACC can get their act together and figure out a way to increase the revenue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The SEC needs to unbolt the door and let us in
