I can only speculate that UNC has known Maye would be leaving and have probably had those third party guys sniffing around for a QB. To your point, it happened fast which usually means someone has been talking ahead of time, kind of like Hartman to ND.

While Dabo thinks both the portal and NIL should be regulated, what he has actually said is that Clemson has recruited well, so he's been able to develop players for a long time and have a lot of retention. Consequently, he hasn't really needed to relay on the portal to a great degree.
The majority of the criticism comes from others who doesn't think Dabo uses the portal enough.

there have been a number of Clemson games on TV where the announcer have pointed out that Clemson doesn't use the portal.
again, PERCEPTION.........whether we know it or not, it makes no difference.
and yes I'd say he needed the portal to some degree the last 2-3 years to shore up some untalented position groups............he just hasn't done it.
on the retention thing.......we've lost 8-9 each year the last 5 years to the portal...........10-11 the last 2 years, that's roughly 1/3 of a recruiting class each year that he's replaced with either walk-ons or freshman next class.

Mayes for example shouldn’t even have another year. Just the NCAA bs Covid rules allow for it. Don’t blame him for taking advantage of it, but should have never been the case. Hope he’s choosing next school on grad studies as much as PT

The only players we have lost to the portal are players that were not playing!
The ones leaving this year understand they are not going to play next year.
But players are leaving every team and money has a lot to do with it!

Exactly… no one can complain with who has transferred out. It’s understood they were not going to get PT at Clemson.
Now Bell and can’t think of the other offensive player last season were both either starters or were going to be. I would hate for that to happen here. I believe then we may have some internal issues.
In comparing this to basketball it’s no comparison. Recruiting bball is totally different. Heck you can leave high school and go right into the league. Others want to play one season see if they can win it all and bale. There is not much development going on anymore seeing everyone wants to play today.

of the "caliber" of who we lost. That's not the issue.
Clemson has lost 8-9 players EVERY YEAR for the last 5 years (on average)........the last 2 years we've lost 10-11. That's MINIMUM ONE THIRD of a recruiting class of kids that "fit the clemson culture" that for whatever reason decided to go........so......after they leave Dabo has choices:
1. Fill that voided scholarship with a Walk-on........ie talent drop off
2. Fill that voided scholarship with a freshman in the NEXT class.....ie we'll be forever young
3. Fill that voided scholarship with a portal player that would be a TALENT UPGRADE from what we have already starting........it's the same dang concept of High School recruiting.......you try to out recruit what you have.
Dabo has chosen #s 1 and 2 so far.......hence why we've seen our drop off the last 3-4 years.
you're entitled to your own wrong opinion.

I wouldn't care. If a perennial top program reached out with an offer, I'd listen. Especially if said program has opportunity at the position I play. So yeah, if I'm a WR, OL, Edge or LB, I'm coming if that is the best opportunity for me to play and get some NIL money.

Who wants to play for Brownell? Joe Girard, the leading scorer in the ACC last year, wants to play for Brownell. Jack Clark and Jake Heidbreder also wanted to play for him. That's why they all transferred in. Dallas Thomas, Del Jones, and Ace Buckner also want to play for Coach Brownell. They make up the #20 overall recruiting class in the country. Are you aware that Clemson beat #23 Alabama on the road by 8 points last night to remain undefeated, equaling their best record thus far since 2008-2009? It's almost like the basketball team is actually doing really well right now, but some of you are so busy bashing them for their past that you fail to even notice.
