How many people on this board got an engineering degree

but ended up quitting the engineering job because you hated it so much. And then by doing so your parents wouldn't let you forget that they paid for the engineering degree, and now you are basically wiping your ### with it......aka guilt trip..........

out of engineering, butt my parents didn't pay for it (Thanks Clemson!) so they could never rub it in my face. My wife however says if I switch careers, I just need to make a similar salary which is NOT going to happen.

Worked at a brick plant for 7 months, a capacitor plant for about 3 years, deployed overseas, worked at float glass plant for about 2 years, then went to work for the National Guard full time.
Been here for 6 years and really enjoy my job. I hated going to work in the mornings before. I also make more than I did in engineering, although to be fair, i've been in this job the longest so...

BSME, '89 - IMHO the degree is a passport to do hard jobs
Jul 31, 2013, 3:07 PM
|

I've done Engineering jobs, management, project management, program management, and manufacturing.
Being able to get an engineering degree means that you show competency in doing the hard stuff and don't quit until it's done.
I never planned to be an "engineer", I just wanted a passport to be hired into difficult jobs.
It's paid off in spades...I'm on my 12th job in 25 years.

I'm even working on fostering the engineering minds of the future. Scary thought.
