Firm and swift punishment. Well done, Dabo.

That sends a resounding message to the team. It's amazing to me that Lakip botched his opportunity. We may have a perfect 13-0 record, but that doesn't mean it's without character flaws.
I love the way Dabo handled this.
GO TIGERS!!!

How else could he have handled it? Not suspend them? First, we don't know if this was an NCAA test or Clemson test... if it was NCAA, he had no choice; if it was Clemson, he still had no choice. What sort of message would it send if he didn't?
I don't understand... everyone was pissed, but then Dabo gives a press conference basically telling everyone what they already know, and now it's ok? What changed from last night to right now? The players are still suspended for the game and I for one don't buy Dabo's comments about Cain being a back-up... yeah, maybe on the depth chart, but he's clearly our best (only?) deep threat and second leading receiver on the team (would prob be #1 if he hadn't missed 3 games). Cain may very well be the reason we beat USuC... that deep bomb TD was a backbreaker (same with NC State).
Lakip isn't AS big a deal, but field position will be important in this game and not having your kick-off specialist will certainly hurt some... TBD how much.
Could care less about Jay Jay... peace out dude.
I'M STILL ANGRY!!! These kids are SELFISH MORONS!
That said...Go Tigers! Lets build another tombstone for OU!

@tigerphan5 - well said. It's a selfish act period. Good riddance Lakin and Jay Jay. Deon, come on man! Really?!? Thank you for taking the focus off of All In and putting it squarely on your 18 year old self. Wake up, it's a team sport, if you want to act like that, go to FSU or OU. GO TIGERS! Love you Dabo.

With what Dabo said, I'm assuming it was a Clemson test and not an NCAA test since JJ can play elsewhere next year and Cain will have a chance to come back?

Thanks for the insight David. All the players know the rules Dabo sets. The choice was theirs to make. Football, like life, is all about the choices we make. Sometimes we learn from those choices ... sometimes not. One persons opportunity lost is another person's opportunity gain, so let's see what that next guy who lived by the rules does with his opportunity. Go Tigers

I could not say it better myself. David, thanks for your insight. Have these players been sent home? And isn't this Deon Cain's second strike? I recall him being suspended for a game earlier in the year. Not only is Trevion Thompson back, so is Ray Ray McCloud. You are the best Dabo. Go Tigers!

Full year for weed? Someone may have been trying to compare this to Will Grier's suspension at Florida, but that was for PEDs.

Consistent Consequences

I love how Dabo metes out punishment in a consistent way. I hate the 2nd time offenders are slow to learn, but all should know there are consequences and repercussions to actions at Clemson and in life. I hope these are life changing revelations for these guys. I wonder if Lakip will have serious legal issues due to this. I believe his last offense was not just weed, and I would think he is on some type probation.

Drug tests administered by the NCAA are all encompassing, not just 'illegal' drugs. Something like a prescription for adderall would create a positive test and they could be suspended. Any legal issues would be dependent upon the terms of his 'probation'
Once Lakip completes(ed) his PTI, it is no longer relevant to any future charges.

While you technically are right, I would be very surprised if his probationary period was as short as the time span since his last offense. Depending on seriousness, probationary periods can go several years if the offense is serious enough. How do I know? I do know this very well.

I do agree that, if his probationary period is over, there would be nothing left hanging over his head. I seriously doubt his probationary period is over. It hasn't even been a year, and I would guess that a Heroine charge, and that is what he was arrested fro, would be at least a year. It is only a guess, though, but even as a "First Offender" that may carry a longer probation.

Now key the " Hey brah ...why they hatin' on the homies smokin' kine bud ? " crowd . Never ceases to amaze me. If you have an important goal , or position or just simply have a lot riding on you not doing something illegal , just don't do it . Dabo should be commended for his swift and authoritative actions on this .

As with everything else he does, "justice is blind." Doesn't matter who, all are equal and bear equal consequences for their actions. I like his matter-of-fact attitude in the press conference, but you know it's gotta affect the rest of the team. I just hope they can look beyond it and focus on the opportunity rather than the problem... the problem is in the past, and nothing will change it... the opportunity is in the future, and can be controlled.
I've gotta wonder how many other coaches would have just looked the other way... or are presently looking the other way...
Thanks Dabo. You just reaffirmed my faith in you!
Now, let's git 'er done tomorrow! Go Tigers

Justice actually has two systems, one for the poor and less fortunate, one for the rich. The two isn't anything close to each other, and to deny it only makes one look terribly foolish.

I'm afraid we lose two pretty big x-factors due to these suspensions. Our kickoffs became a lot less of a liability when Lakip took over the starting role. We absolutely cannot afford to give up scores on kickoff returns at this point. Cain was THE deep threat guy. He might not be the starter on the depth chart, but he's a huge part of the offense. I wonder now who will stretch the field. We need to keep those Sooner DB's on their heels. I'm applaud Dabo for handling this situation with class, as always, and for taking the opportunity to praise the other 112 guys on the team, but I think our chances of winning may have been hurt by these guys' actions.

mary juan a? Has any information been released as to what drugs they tested positive for?
When was the test administered? Was it before/during/right after exam week? Did any of these guys test positive for performance enhancing drugs like adderall that a lot of kids use and abuse (legally and illegally) to cram for exams?
IMHO, context makes a difference here. Taking a prescription medication to help study for and pass exams does not deserve the same scrutiny as smoking a blunt with grandma on the front porch while you are home for Christmas...

Jay Jay can finish school, but not be able to play football. He can transfer and play for some other school.
I just hope Cain learns from this. Drugs are a very bad problem in our society and we applaud Dabo for his swift and fair punishment. Regardless of who administered the test these young men has hurt the team. I think Cain can up his actions and become the kind of player he is with a future. I just hope he doesn't take this as just punishment but take it and learn from it. I was so hoping what Ammon said at media day was true. Now we know he has not learned what it takes to learn from his mistakes. I pray all these young men will get the help they need to overcome this and learn for their future.
For my Clemson Tigers I hope they will do as they always have overcome adversity. We love you Tigers and we wish you the best tomorrow. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!! Have fun and play with all you've got as far as hearts and guts goes. We are ALL IN Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lakip should be remembered for his possible game saving tackle he made on a kick off return vs. Notre Dame. Had he not made that tackle Clemson would not be in the Playoff. This comes at a really bad time, as special teams have not been good all year. Deon is probably our best deep threat, as well. As the coach says, "It is just a game." Go Tigers!
