CBV is "Dead Man Walking" according to one Okla insider

5

Jan 3, 2025, 5:28 AM

This insider Jack from Norman, Ok said things are really bad at Sooners right now. According to insider, CBV was asked to do a year end review with some of BOTs and top brass without the AD Jim C. CBV took it a step further and asked requested many top boosters and all BOTs except for AD. This meeting happened with aroind 2doz or more Sooner brass and CBV laid it all out.

Basically CBV told everyone that he is being handicapped by the AD, that Jim C is micromanaging every step, along with directing NIL funds or lack of on the wrong personnel or not for the players that CBV wants. According to Jack, CBV put it all on the line (BV knows he is on the hot seat but we know CBV has fight) and basically said that there are reigns that Jim C needs to remove immediately if this is going to work. Supposedly CBV suggested maybe it was time for Jim C to retire or get with the times.

Insider Jack says that this bullish move by CBV has pi$$ed off the AD Jim C and someone said that the AD told an administrator that CBV was a "Dead-Man Walking!".

If this is all true or even partially true, sounds like there could be some serious fireworks and CBV isn't gonna go down with a fight.

Sidenote: my Insider Jack said that fans have been basically ok with Goodwin coming to Okla as Co-Def thinking the past working friendship with WG and BV should help keep some peace around the program as Alley leave for WVU.

This is all I got, True or not? Jack also said that AD Jim C has been there since like 1999 and most fans are ready for him to be gone. Could be fireworks, could be a bunch of BS??

Oh, the reason the fans are mostly good with WG working for CBV is because them together have won two Natties and maybe WG with BV can work some magic. That is probably fair reasoning, I just hope they don't expect the same ball of fire that BV exudes.

From what I’ve seen on X, it’s because most Okie fans think Goodwin is a great recruiter. They believe he was the lead in any studs we’ve gotten since he was DC. They’re in for a big surprise.

Well that even shows how much they dont know because as an analyst, they cannot recruit. What i was told was the fact that BV wanted him to start, so he was a BV guy and they were a duo for 2 natties. Outside looking in it sounds great, inside looking around isnt the same view overall.

I told Brent when he left, they already ran you out of town once, what makes you think they will not do it again? He said he had to try. I understood that.

One of the folks who went with Venables told me that

Jan 3, 2025, 7:39 AM

It was difficult to do things at OK. He was used to getting everything asked for from Clemson, but getting anything from OK was a struggle - kind of a “we’ve never done it like that here, and we’ve won championships before” attitude. He left after a year on the job.

Sounds like either the AD or CBV are on the way out. Chaos at Okie Dokie U is fine with me. CBV will find another gig.

Brent knew what he was getting into when he took the job.

As much fire as he brought at Clemson OU knew what they were getting. It is my opinion that the sensationalism of the story you tell is an elaborate exaggeration, speculations brought about by fans' wishful thinking or imaginations.

I know Clemson suffers similar speculation. Find a problem, point a finger at someone as the root of the problem.

Well I did my best to just regurgitate what I was told. I didn't even know what their AD's name is but I could see BV letting someone know he felt hamstrung even if it ruffled some feathers. Whether any or all happened, I feel confident there is some truth to the story but no doubt it could be embellished, never claimed it was 100% fact because I dont know. But I thought it was good enough story to pass along.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, I wasn't saying there is no validity to the rumor but rather that...

Jan 3, 2025, 9:54 AM

fans' speculations and wishful thinking is added to a bit of truth in order to sensationalize the story.

I believe that everyone at OU is taking flak over OU's record this season. Imo, that's happening to some extent at Clemson. Imo, that's justified in both cases and perfectly reasonable for fans to get their panties in a wad after losing to rivals and failing to meet other expectations.

I think it's reasonable to believe that internal struggles occur because when it comes down to it most folks are emotionally involved in their jobs and everyone takes heat when an entity like a college football program fails to meet the standard set for itself.

I give you credit for making folks who have been dumping on our DC look ignorant. OU is desperately trying to fix their problem and fans there would welcome Wes' help while fans here are claiming Clemson is firing him.

Someone is wrong about Goodwin. If Venables wants him then we have the choice of believing whether or not BV is an idiot for wanting a 'loser like WG,' or 'firing a great DC like Wes.'

Imo that's pretty obvious who knows more about coordinating a defense between a bunch of crybabies who disagree with the man who defines defense in their own minds.

So thank you for that.

CBV is the last person I would want to have to confront when he is backed into a corner…

This should be interesting.

Hmmm no official news from Clemson that Goodwin has been fired. Wonder if BV might be thinking he could be fired soon and told Dabo to hold up on sending him Goodwin, have Co-DC with BV on the sidelines and Goodwin in the booth. Since we don't give a #### about special teams make Goodwin the special team coordinator so BV can take his LBs back.

Hey I can dream right?

Time for BV to come home. The $8 million buyout may present a problem, though.

The OU AD has been there for years and isn't going to let BV push him around. And if the skinny is correct and I bet it is, BV needs to wake up. A HC gets micromanaged and NIL is part of life.

If I'm BV I negotiate a buy out and go home and take care of my wife.
