Heisman? IIRC Pac12 won last year and ACC the year before. Could it be that your glasses may have an orange tint to them and can't accept that Henry had a Heisman worthy season?

I think the problem is that they gave him the trophy a couple months ago...
watching an awards presentation when you already know the outcome is no fun
If all they players got equal hype and representation and the outcome was truly "unknown" until the vote...less folks would b pizzed imho

Comparing Watson to Henry to MilfCaffery is apples to oranges to potatoes at best. I think the 11 int is what sunk Watson in the end. Do I think he deserved it? Yes. Do I think the other 2 did as well? Yes.

Of course I wouldn't complain. That's exactly what im getting at
If ESPN had been pumping Watson the way they had been pumping Henry the last month, do you think the results would have been different?
For the record, Im not complaining about it...it is what it is. Im just saying its crazy to argue that ESPN doesn't have any influence on the outcome

There's no sense in arguing amongst ourselves over something silly like this. Henry had a great year and the voters deemed him the winner. Its over.
This team has much bigger goals in sight that aren't determined by a vote or influenced by the media. DW will take the field and make his case in a few short weeks....then the rest of the country will see what we already knew.
Go Tigers!

Not trying to attack you or your opinion at all. I think all 3 are worthy candidates and yes, Watson did win the Obrien award (as he was MOST deserving compared to who he was up against)

And frankly, I find it annoying as well
But I don't think people are seriously saying that "ESPN rigged the voting." Thats BS
What they DID do is promote their favorite (who yes, had a very Heisman worthy season) over 2 other candidates who also has very Heisman worthy seasons. I think David Hood summed it up perfectly with his article this morning, and I echo his thoughts.
All I'm saying is that its borderline ludicrous to argue that ESPN doesn't play a major role in swaying voters one way or another.
But I'm with you, all the whining is annoying and needs to stop. We are all on the same team here. Oh well, time to move on. Happy Sunday to you and I will see you in Miami!

Lincoln said, "I find that people believe exactly what they want to believe".
He was right and to your point, the SEC has won the Heisman 7 times in the last 30 years.
It's not rigged.

Do you REALLY think ESPN has NO influence
Dec 13, 2015, 1:35 PM
|
|
On voters?
As the mainstream source of sports journalism in this country, whatever they pump or spin will inevitably resonate with those who tune in.
If they push Henry Henry Henry for the month leading up to the award presentation, isn't it more likely that more people will tend to lean that way as well?
It really isn't that complicated and it certainly isn't farfetched by any means

as the average TNETer would like to believe, but the hype train is a HUGE part of winning the Heisman, and a network as big as ESPN can certainly help get the hype snowball rolling.
That said, the whining about Watson not winning has been pretty unbearable around here. It's not like he was a clear cut favorite - even stat wise. I think the argument for Watson is that he's more the MVP. If you take him off Clemson, we win like 9 games and finish 2nd in the division behind FSU again. Take Henry off Bama and they just plug in the next RB behind that OL and are probably in a similar place to where they are now.
IMO the biggest factor in Watson not winning the Heisman is that he was quiet in the early part of the season. We had the training wheels on him early while he regained confidence in his knee, and we also had some games that just dictated keeping the ball on the ground more. Watson's run of Heisman form didn't start until at least our 5th game of the season, and it was several more weeks before he really started getting the hype.
If DW had been healthy at the beginning of the season and put up the kind of numbers he did later in the season he would've had the stats, and, more importantly, the hype train to win the Heisman this year.
