A lot of you offered tips for our trip to London and thanks because many of them were very helpful.
London is a fantastic city. I hadn't been in a while and it's still the place I remember. Only the black cabs are all green/electric and so are the red buses.
Most of the people we really spoke with beyond small-talk LOVE TRUMP. And they hate Green energy -- I'm talking about working-class folks. People who have bills to pay and kids to feed and can't afford housing unless they're an hour or more out of the city.
The Brits are still as polite and dry-witted as ever. And the dollar is still weak as ever against the pound.
Tips for anyone thinking of going to UK this summer:
1. Fly Delta. American sucks. And fly Premium Select on the bulkhead going east over the pond. The extra room made a big difference in our ability to sleep. Then fly Comfort+ on the bulkhead coming home.
2. Heathrow's customs process is ridiculously simple. We scanned thru the checkpoint in 30 seconds. Not sure other major airports in the UK/mainland Europe offer this, but it was a fantastic experience I wish American airports would catch up.
3. No, London is not unsafe. London does not even *feel unsafe. There aren't crazed knife-wielders roaming the streets as many bloggers/media idiots suggest there are. London is a clean city and remarkably friendly for such a huge melting pot of humanity.
4. Go to Duke's for the martinis. They're about $40 with the exchange but just one does the job. Strongest I've ever had. And bestest.
5. Shop Chelsea and Mayfair. Go to Covent Garden and hit up a few gin palaces. There's a cigar bar in Mayfair that has great cocktails and a very well-stocked humidor. "C.Gars St. James" a Russian lady owns it and she's awesome.
6. Traffic can be a b*tch. Use the tube -- which is clean and safe, too.
TYTIA.

Trump has a 16% approval rating in England. He is generally disliked across Europe. A place where they don't dislike him as much from my experience is Hungary.

When they realized we were Americans, they brought up Trump. Trump's about the last thing I want to discuss, no matter the continent.
In any event, I suspect you're about as European as my full-quill Lucchese's.

When we were in London last May, everyone was hoping Trump would win the election. They all basically said the world goes as the USA goes, and Trump was their choice to get us there.

But glad it was a good trip. You’re right that the media who try to act like London is some dangerous place is just incorrect. Much safer than basically every major American city at least. Even medium size American cities with bad areas.
Good thing you didn’t go deeper into summer cause the Tube can get really hot since it has little air flow

3 years ago and a couple years before that. I have been many times and Europe a couple dozen in general. You can look up a recent poll and Trump has an 18 percent approval rating in England. He isn't liked in Europe generally. Russians love him though.

I can tell you that most born and bred English are disgusted with their immigration issues and love to see what Trump has done. They want their government to lock the borders to only legal immigration as housing has become unaffordable for the working class because immigrants are being subsidized and live in large family groups. I am not sure too many locals are anti-Trump unless they are raving liberals.

He hijacked his.own thread talking politics. If he didn't want to talk about them, why did he mention them? You didn't realize Trump is a politician and they he brought up how much he is loved there? He didn't want to talk Trump or politics? Hmm...you and I have different reading comprehension skills.

mentioned immigration/boats. Probably because every single one of them were second-generation Brits from places like Somalia, Ethiopia and Bangladesh.
But they all said they were fed up with green energy policies and, for the most part, social progressivism.
Again, they were all working men with families to feed and bills to pay.

He seemed like a pretty reasonable person but still, I didn't ask why he wasn't on board with Khan's program. Didn't really care. London was a delightful city. Very clean, very safe, very reasonable and hospitable.
The only beef we had with London was the night we went from our place in Westminster over to Greenwich for a concert at O2. Traffic was horrible coming and going. Should've taken an uber boat down the Thames. However, some of the traffic was caused by VE80 prep and some was the result of ongoing construction.
Typical of any mega-city on the planet.

A1A, so glad that you had a great trip. I was in London from 5/1-5/9. Agree about the tube. Such an inexpensive and efficient way to get around the city. There’s so much to see there.
We took a black taxi from Heathrow to our hotel. I never bring up politics or religion when I travel out of the country. Our taxi driver brought up Trump. What I am about to type are his words. He said that Brits 40 and over love Trump. He said younger ones had been brainwashed. He also stated that they have an immigration problem.
We did a day trip out of England to the countryside. Our tour guide that day mentioned that he was pulling for Trump to win in hopes of getting a trade deal. The deal was signed two days later.
For what it is worth, the airport taxi driver also talked about medications. The use of weight loss injections is very common and affordable in England. I about fell out when Trump mentioned his friend calling him up about the cost of the injections in the US. We had just heard this from our taxi driver the week before. They pay 150 British pounds a month in England and access to it is not complicated.

He is wrong about 40 and over. He just believed it. When over 80% disapprove of Trump, then you know it's most of over 40 as well. Moreover, the Brits are anti-Russia at the moment and that makes it even worse for Trump.

Jeeze, multiple people tell you what they have heard in person on Europe and you basically call them liars because you don't want to hear anything pro Trump. Stick your head in the sand all you want but people do like Trump outside of US. Australia loves Trump because they know the China sea is critical right now.

Well, I have heard in person and I have spent more time in Europe than all of them combined. I have shown why they are full of shyt. They aren't liars. They just don't know what they are talking about. There is a huge difference. Trump is disliked in Western Europe generally. That's undeniable. I will take your word on Australia. I haven't been and know little about it.

A false narrative is one that misrepresents reality while claiming to be reality. It is usually either fabricated or extremely distorted.
I said that everyone who brought Trump up to us was for Trump. And that is true.
If I had said "Everyone in the UK is FOR TRUMP because everyone who asked us about Trump said they were FOR TRUMP," then, yes, I would've been trying to advance a false narrative.
I think what you're trying to say is that the handful of people who asked us about Trump, and who said they were FOR TRUMP, are not representative of the majority of Brits or for that matter, western Europeans.
You've claimed to be an expert in what Europe thinks, and have brought polling data to bear in support of your position.
I suspect your position may be specious. But I'm afraid that's as far as I'll go with it. It isn't important enough to debunk.

Maybe you just hang with different groups as I have a 20 person team in London, Germany and Spain. They dislike the handling of Ukraine by Trump because they expected him to close a peace deal and he initially cut military funding unlike Biden. Beyond Ukraine and Russia where they expected him to close the war, as a country they are tired of funding Ukraine just like most are tired of the war. My group overall love Trump's policies especially immigration laws. But I dont hear hatred towards Trump like I heard mockery of Biden for letting millions into US and they blame US for London becoming too liberal and letting too many migrants into Britain.
Even Germans are complaining about too many Turks and now Turk gangs in cities. When in Berlin last year my German emplyees told me where not to go first before they told me where to go.
But the Bier Garten and pork shank with bier gravy was the best

A lot of people complain about the immigrants in Europe. That's true. That doesn't mean anything for Trump though. He doesn't control their immigration. As fast Biden goes, they thought he was old and senile and had no business in office. As far.as Trump goes they think he is a buffoon, blowhard, who sides with Russia. As far as blaming the US for London being too liberal. That is absolutely laughably ridiculous. They don't even think of us in their equation. They don't blame us for their own blunders in regards to situations like that.

To the subject of drugs: Our allergies flared up the second day and a box of what we'd call Benadryl and some nasal spray was much, much less than we'd pay here in Simpsonville, and that's adjusting for the exchange rate.
Yeah, I think UK is not unlike the US re: Trump. Olders are generally for him, youngsters aren't. I remember being against anyone my parents supported when I was young and hadn't yet been mugged by life's responsibilities.
In other words, a liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet.

Did you by chance go to the grocery store and check out items? They do not want to buy our stuff because of all the unhealthy ingredients that we add. This was talked about on their news when the trade deal was signed. They were very happy they did not cave on their food quality. Also their bread and fresh fruit and vegetable prices were so much cheaper too.

I popped in to the local market to buy some fruit, mixed nuts and meats for us to munch on between meals -- we were doing almost 30,000 steps/day and needed the fuel!
The food was cheaper ... and fresher ... and healthier. Really enjoyed that experience.
Also found that booze was not very costly, either. Cocktails, that is. The ones at Duke's were pricey but they were also healthy pours.
If the dollar was not so blasted weak against the pound, London would be almost too good to be true from a tourism standpoint.
We had a ball at Borough Market. We love Covent Garden and Fortnum & Mason. Had dinner at Wilton's (best oysters I've had in years -- from off the Northern Irish coast) and hit up an Italian spot in SOHO called Circcolo Popolare -- best italian we've had in a long, long time.
Only Ristorante Bergamot on Main Street here in Greenville compares. And Circcolo was a fraction of the price.

Sounds like you had an awesome time! Your impression of the food quality and prices are the same as mine. I am writing down the restaurants that you mentioned because I hope to go back.
