Bambi’s mom is delicious though. Hunting isn’t all about the killing. It’s about getting outdoors and building lifelong memories with Granddaughters. It’s also about thinning the population so disease and starvation doesn’t destroy the population. Hunters that follow the rules actually increase the healthy deer population. And that Granddaughter will tell her grandchildren stories about hunting with her grandfather someday!

said hunting was stupid and ridiculous. I don't call anything anybody wants to do, whether I agree or not, stupid or ridiculous. If that is what they want to do and if doesn't affect me, let them enjoy it.
Clover and I have shared several stories while tailgating. They are never boring.
There is nothing like getting outdoors and enjoying nature. It's amazing.
I have seen tug's outdoor pictures and enjoy them. Relaxing outside, listening to music, enjoying a drink and nature as his entertainment. Sounds like heaven.

the deer population somewhat under control! As an insurance agent with a good number of personal auto policies, I can tell you that the most common auto claim is from hitting a deer! It would be even worse without the deer hunters doing their part!

Not as much as you would think. We used to hunt in PA and their gun season was after Thanksgiving so there were many cold days with snow on the ground. We would gather at lunchtime and clear an area to build a small fire and cook hot dogs for lunch. When we finished eating we would go back to our stands which were not far away. More than once I saw deer very soon after lunch near where the fire had been. They are very curious and it almost seemed like they were looking for the source of the smoke. Certainly didn’t keep them out of the area.

That’s what one doe tag is for. The lack of hormones makes the meat so much better than a seasoned Buck in the rut or post rut. The rest are looking for that wall hanger that makes people’s jaw drop.

I can normally do cold seeing that after playing a few holes you do warm up and some-what get acclimated but when it’s windy I’m out. I never get warmed up with a cold wind. Misery

I never got to do that, my grandparents were pretty much gone before I was even old enough to remember them, all except my maternal grandmother, who used to hit us kids with a fly swatter whenever we came in range.
She was not happy about being shuffled from house to house, to stay out of a nursing home. So, I have no real memories of a loving grandparent, at all. She died when I was nine, first funeral I remember attending. It was late 1963, not that long before JFK was assassinated. Funny how you associate different things.

It was cold Saturday. Did you take her to the river or your other spot? I was in Bishopville and we did a little work around the camp then took one of the guy’s kids squirrel hunting in the afternoon. We got five of those little varmints. It had been a really long time since I last cleaned and ate a squirrel. We didn’t do as good a job of cooking them as Mom used to.
