Looking to buy a Blu-Ray player for Red for Jesus' B-day

Preferably one that plays both DVD and Blu-Ray
Also, anyone know of one that has Roku/Chromecas capabilities? (i.e. netflix, hulu, youtube)?

The PS3 is still the best rated Blu-Ray player out.

But stick with Sony, the BDP-S5100 has some good reviews and is affordable.
This is what roku can do: http://www.roku.com/

why not just buy the Digital Download?
Or why not just watch it on a 36 inch Sony VEGA like the rest of us?

it's the thing that my 1.5 yo hits with toys. Other than that, it serves almost no purpose.
but it DOES have Netflix/youtube/Vudu/MLB/weather/pandora....it's a samsung.
Roku/Chromecast do all those things better though.

I know that the Roku is sweet

However, if you have a "Smart TV", I don't think that you need one (May need to double check that). I haven't seen or tried in person one of the new Google things, but I know that the Roku is much better than the Apple TV. In college we had a Roku, then we also had an external hard drive that we stored all of our downloaded movies on and had that linked to the TV. Most of those were in blu-ray quality, and it didn't cost anything to buy em...
I've never actually had to buy a blu-ray player, or even buy a movie for that matter, haha. If I was buying one though, I would definitely go with a Samsung or Sony as they typically make quality $hit.
Give the Roku a serious look, as well as the new Google device as I'm sure both are just as good and cheaper than the AppleTV. You can get HBOgo, Netflix, Hulu, pretty much everything on the internet. In my personal opinion--Roku over a Blu-Ray
Hope that helps

With a smart TV you then need to run a sound output from
Nov 19, 2013, 8:39 AM

the TV to the sound receiver so you can play the sound through your system and not the TV speakers. That's why a Roku/AppleTV is better because you can go straight to your sound system and then your TV.

Never mind the Eastern European homeless war refugee pR0n, the channel dedicated to crocheted sweater vests for your cats is riveting. Coverage of Middle Eastern backgammon tournament play is sports gold. And how does one NOT watch the 1001 Ways To Arrange Houseplants channel without having a life-changing epiphany?!?

You do know Jesus was not born in winter, right?
Nov 19, 2013, 8:47 AM
|
|
The shepherds who saw the angels announcing his birth would not have been out in their fields in December. The Palestinian winters are too cold.
If you believe in that sort of thing...
