Frustration to Disappointment to Complete Apathy

I travel from Savannah to Clemson once or twice a year to watch a hoops game. I attended Clemson from '79 to '84 and some pretty competitive games. Saw us beat #1 Duke in '79. Saw Jordan, Worthy, and Perkins play in Littlejohn. Saw Ralph Sampson get pounded by Moose & the Tigers his freshman year. Dale Davis, Elden Campbell, Trevor Booker and especially Terrell "Boogie" McIntyre were favorites of mine. We were never great but usually competitive thru Foster, most of Ellis, and Barnes tenures.
Purnell's teams worked hard. What they lacked in X's and O's they made up for in hustle and Defense. At the end of the year, Purnell's teams always appeared tired and overmatched by NCAA pressures. But they brought it most of the year.
Cannot say if it's the coach or the players, but this year when I go to agame, it will be more for Pixie & Bill's, MH Frank's, ice cream and the beautiful campus. I will pull for them, but the basketball team is not worth the price of admission. Losing to Coastal Carolina is never an option for any ACC team. Recruiting, talent levels and effort are way off. The unappreciated Demontez Stitt was the last ACC caliber player on our team. I like Coach Brownell or at least what I hear about him, but his future with the Tigers looks very short at present.
As Bob Dylan sings eloquently "I Used to Care But Things Have Changed". Great Tune. Look it up.

Classic over-reaction...

People that make a major case out of one game have absolutely no sense of perspective. For your information, #1 and previously undefeated Syracuse lost to Temple this weekend. Did it end the Orange's season? Absolutely not. Is it a setback? Yeah. But it's December, not March. What happens now has little impact on what happens 4 months from now. I'll also remind you that SC lost to D2 Francis Marion in baseball last season. Did it damage their season? Apparently not. True fans don't write off their team at any time. If you can't come to campus with the intention of fully supporting the team AND its staff, stay home.

You speak of losing to Temple yet they are a good basketball team. Coastal Carolina is not. If you don't see the writing on the wall then you have got blinders on. I think Brownell is a hell of a coach don't get me wrong but I question his ability to recruit players that can compete at this level. In year three there is no excuse to be losing to the likes of a bad coastal team. We can not even reel in the top players in state at this point ex. Thornwell,Stroman, Dozier,Woods. If we can't bring in the talent from instate players what makes you think things are going to get better?

lunatic fringe hang out here. Never seen so many whining, sense-of-entitlement, lacking perspective, quick-to-quit men in my life. What is creating Clemson men like some of these guys? Is this what being in the top 25 of education brings us? Some guys here have zero understanding of what a real man is supposed to be like. These are not the type of men our founding fathers envisioned. It's sad man. Real men fight through adversity, they don't cry and quit. What the heck happened to my esteemed university?
Off my soapbox now.

Last 2 years by mid December, we have sealed our fate.

We would need 11 or 12 ACC wins to make NCAAs. For me, more ambivalent than apathy. I watch the TV games with little investment.

I have ever heard from a so-called Tiger fan.
"but the basketball team is not worth the price of admission."
You should be ashamed of yourself!

Did you honestly think this team would be good?

I know they lost to costal but we are a much better team than I expected this season. We have two seniors and zero juniors. For all the talk of recruiting the big 5 star player on the team might be the biggest detriment this team has right now. The future is bright. Sure we might have some growing pains but the next two seasons I expect us to see what brownell is really made of.

Where were all the Brownell haters when we were hanging with Gonzaga? Guys we have a great coach who I think may be better than purnell minus recruiting. So far, look at filer and roper. Both three stars who are contributing greatly. So he's shown his ability to evaluate and develop talent. Next year will be alot better. Blossomgame will be ready to go and all the fresh and soph will have one more year of experience. Besides, keep your heads up, its only december!

Remember folks we play in the ACC not the MEAC. We have to recruit ACC talent to compete. Since Booker, Stitt, Rivers and Mays left, talent has been in short supply.
I post to T-Net to have some honest dialogue about the direction of our programs not just "happy thoughts" to boost my T-Net score. When half of T-Net dismissed Coach Morris as "high school coach", I was pumped at his potential to improve our Offense. Ditto for Venables.
Brownell seems to have the "X's and O's". So did Cliff Eliis - ACC Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1990. Fired for lack of Clemson fan interest and attendance in 1994. I was at his last game. An excellent coach. But "X's and O's" are not enough. It takes recruiting, talent and winning to generate interest and put fannies in the seats. Fact.
