I have to assume (bad word) that when a highly recruited recruit who, until less than a week ago was a Clemson “lock” according to most national recruiting services, announced a one day delay in his announcement, everyone started “smelling a rat.” Today he commits to a school 866 miles from his home vs one that is 91 miles. My assumption is that we got outbid. I am not knocking the kid for “taking the money and run,” but I hope he invests it well and not blow it. Also, due his announcement delay, I have to assume”agents” had to be involved.
College football is a dying sport. One of the instigators of this is Greg Sankey. If he has his way the SEC will end up bing all that is left of college football.

That's obviously what happened. A&M has been a joke for a long time but they definitely have deep pockets. Odds are he stays there a year or two and then jumps to whoever else can pay him since he is going to be losing a lot of games there.

A&M is 5th in SEC wins since joining the conference. Fallen to that after losing their starting QB yearly since their 2021 suckage began it.

We did not get them simply because they like our family atmosphere. Is it okay that we outbid other schools for their services, or do you have a problem with that too?

I don’t feel that Clemson got outbid. I get the feeling that the bidding got to the point that Dabo said enough and cut bait.

The amount we offered for three years was $2 million less than what Texas A&M offered. I don’t know what Texas offered.
A&M is going to pay him five point something million across three years.

Outbid may not be the exact word tho.
He’s what 18? What I can say without a doubt is that when I was 18 I could have been swayed by money. It doesn’t necessarily mean I’m a bad guy, but maybe a money difference is able to sway my heart.
His heart was at Clemson. His 18 year old head sided towards the money.
As it’s been since the pay for play deal became legal, we will pay very good money for players both in retention and recruitment. Our NIL program estimated worth is what, top 15 or so?
We don’t stop “negotiating” because we can’t afford it, we stop when it becomes clear money is the overriding factor for a kid.
Maybe he’ll do just fine being that far from home. But it’s a known fact one of the things he liked about Clemson initially was the closeness to home. Oh well, money won.
When are these commitments binding anyway?
